From the first promo, it looks like Liz is trying the burning money trick that Red used with Yaabari in Lord Baltimore. There's a second promo that shows her being pretty violent with another man. Spoilers have said she's using tactics learned from Blacklisters. But it really looks more like stuff she learned from Red to me.

There is a small clip on tv guide with Liz and Samar.

There is also a pic I saw the other day and on that link where Liz is in the evidence. I wonder what she's taking. I tried to zoom it but couldn't see it.

Eastcoast - The clip with Red, Liz, and Samar is interesting. It doesn't surprise me that Samar became Red's contact on the task force. And I can believe those crazy men who danced to Southern Cross were part of a drug syndicate. Although it's hard to believe Red hasn't found Garvey, and Garvey hasn't found Red by now, it should be interesting to see how Ian resurfaces.
I agree that it is hard to believe Red is completely in the dark. It isn’t impossible but it has been over a year and Garvey was like a dog fighting at the end of his leash to get to Red. I can’t believe he would just be cooling his heels about this and not trying to find Red.

Something I have wondered (obviously without any proof at this point) is if Red could be in a similar situation to Ressler, only he doesn’t know who is blackmailing him and he has decided to play along to get closer to the truth. 🤷🏻♀️

The conversation that Red has with Liz here reminds me of the conversation he had with her about Tom in, I think it was, The Kingmaker. He said he didn't know what Tom was up to and in those carefully chosen words, it was true that although of course (unbeknownst to Liz) Red knew of Tom, he didn't know at that point what Tom was up to, who he was working for, and who the enemy was. He was trying to identify his enemy, in that case, Berlin, by following the leads Tom provided. He only tells Liz what he thinks she needs to know on a "need to know" basis.
So its possible that Garvey is working for someone else, or, Red is trying to find him through following those guys in Liz's apartment and who they were affiliated and what activities they were involved in, in order to track down what we know to be Garvey. But I do agree, it would be strange after what is probably more than a year, Garvey would not have made contact. Or maybe he has but Red can't figure out who he is. The same happened with Berlin. Red spent years in that case trying to get to the bottom of it.
but I guess anything can happen......

Brittany - I've also wondered if Red is being blackmailed by Garvey. And it's possible he doesn't know who his blackmailer is.
lara1 - You are right about Red spending a long time trying to identify Berlin. So it may be like that.
That's a good point about Berlin. We've seen similarities with season 1 in season 5...maybe there is a similarity with the hunt for Garvey as there was for Berlin. Only the threat is different and possibly stronger this time around.

I am wondering about how much of a time jump they are talking about? Red says he had been looking for those guys for over a year.

Not much of a spoiler, since it aired on Fallon last night, but do you think Reds car was totaled?
Probably. That car has been through the wringer. It got all shot up in 5.08. Granted that was over a year ago on the show, but it's probably getting tired of this nonsense.
