As I was looking at Spoiler photos and the sneak peek for 5.02, I was struck with how much more feminine and pretty Liz's wardrobe is becoming - flouncy sleeves on her work blouse, the flowered dress, the fancy red dress, etc. Remember last year when there were all those complaints about how dowdy and dark Liz's wardrobe had become? Bam! They can't complain about that in Season 5 so far.
Remember all the complaints about Agnes dominating the early action in Season 4? All we've gotten so far is her doll.
Last year some corners of the fan base suggested Liz and Tom were not really that interested in each other because they didn't kiss in Season 4. Bam! They're all over each other now.
Fans also complained last year about missing the Red and Liz dynamic from Season 3A. The season's opening episodes remedy that.
That’s definitely a possibility. I think it’s possibly a sign of things being stable. No active threat to Liz, she has an answer that takes some weight off her shoulders. I think everyone with the exception of Ressler and possibly Cooper are enjoying life a little more this year. At least at this point.

I think the threat to Liz is only in pause mode. Maybe Red doesn't pose as much of a threat to her while he has lost the power he used to wield? But when he rebuilds the threat will grow along with his power? That suggests to me what it always has - it may not be who Red is but what Red is, that poses the danger to her. Or, more likely, both.

Well, full disclosure....I'm a stay at home mom of two wonderful young children as well as being a full time nanny in my home for an adorable baby girl. I love babies and children!
But.....with that being said.....I really wish they had not written Megan Boone's pregnancy into The Blacklist storyline. We may laugh about the absurdity of how baby Agnes has apparently gone the way of Hudson but it's hard to tell the sort of intense stories The Blacklist requires with two of the main characters (Liz and Tom) having to be 100% present for a baby! The Alexander Kirk storyline could have still gone on without Liz ever being pregnant. (i.e, hiding Megan's pregnancy with camera angles, tunic tops, or video editing) As bizarre as it is now to wonder "um, where the heck is their baby?!?" it's better this way.

Agreed. I’m a mom but other than an adorable shot of Red holding her for a minute, I’m on board with not toting her around. She has a nanny. They can hang out together.

I think that Liz's lighter, more flow-ey and colorful wardrobe is aligned with the lighter tone we have seen - happier, I wouldn't say carefree, but somehow, lighter. Her makeup also seems sheerer and lighter.
An interesting thing for me is that Liz has never really worn those sorts of clothes - I don't think she has even worn a dress apart from her wedding, and the red gown early on in Season 3. Every time I see her in something floaty I think of bubble girl and the woman in the home movies....
I think in some ways they have done a major re-set of the series and story. I think that too because of all the parallels I saw with the pilot.
With the baby storyline, I agree, and there was way too much emphasis on in early in Season 4. You have other shows, some procedural, where a baby has come into the storyline but its hasn't been THE storyline. And once there are a handful of episodes dealing with it (and not for a majority of screen time), it kind of disappears. We don't see characters in these other shows having time devoted to it - it may be mentioned from time to time and that's it.
Having said that the baby storyline did unearth history of Liz and KR and drew some parallels to Liz's own story. But I think we could have done without a lot of it. And I don't think we ever need to see the baby again. Just knowing it is there and a mention now and again is fine with me.

lara1 - I agree that the dresses go more with the lighter tone. The other time Liz wore a dress was in Season 2 in T. Earl King.

Thanks Tuxie400 - I forgot about Earl King. Interesting that the only times other than her wedding, when she has worn a dress, have been when she has been "undercover".
Agree with you on behavior between Liz and Tom. the differences are I think what helps to fuel the "not Tom" ideas I've seen lately. I don't subscribe to it, but love that this show spawns some interesting ideas! LOL
Something I’ve noticed is that Liz never wears the slinky, sexy dresses. She tends to be more covered, a little more conservative. She may show a little cleavage but not over the top (from what I can recall). Navabi gets the more revealing dresses, as seen in this clip. I wonder if it is a conscious decision on the show. Perhaps to avoid the appearance of sexual attraction between Red and Liz (especially with the father-daughter canon)? Or it’s just Liz’s style?

Neat topic about how characters' clothing represents who they are and their state of mind.
In season one, there were a couple times that wardrobe was discussed. Red once told Liz she was an autumn, not a winter. The Reddy Bear scientist also gave suggestions to Liz. Like a little kid trying to be independent and learning to dress herself, Liz gets pointers on how to do it better. Interesting contrast to Red who gets fitted for his suits. For himself, he simply throws money at it - takes himself to a professional.
In season one, we saw Tom switch from school teacher to killer spy merely by taking off his glasses - like Clark Kent becoming Superman. Related to that idea - One of the producers said that Liz is kryptonite to Tom. Struck me as odd at the time bc the show's main focus is on the safety and welfare of Liz and Agnes - not Tom. It really wasn't until Redemption came along that we saw a concern for Tom's own safety and welfare. There were a few times where Red seemed to begrudgingly care about Tom, but that was because Red cared about Liz and Agnes.
From fashion to family dynamics... Time to stop rambling and go to sleep :-)

Looks at pictures from future episodes shows Liz where a lot of red in various shades...unconsciously aligning herself with Red? I've seen her in two different red dresses, a red shirt, and a pink shirt so far.

I remember either Megan or JB in an interview a few years ago or more talking about her clothes and that it was her style of clothes that she would wear.
Someone, I think lara1 had mentioned the wig Liz wore and didn't know why they did that. It was because Megan had short hair and Liz needed long hair and they were waiting for it to grow out. 😉
