Nominations for Guest Star Candidates?

Assuming The Blacklist has one or two seasons left before it goes into syndication (and I'm not sure what to make of recent reports about its stagnating ratings), and continues to draw on the deep pool of acting talent in New York where it's filmed (and other age-appropriate talent), do you know of any actresses and actors who are contemporaries of Red Reddington/James Spader to play Blacklisters, allies, adversaries, or other roles? Recurring  themes and mysteries of TBL involve repercussions of events and interactions that took place 25-30 years ago, making it ideal for casting semi-retired, veteran actors and actresses. *

Here are some of the candidates on my wish list, and the reasons why. (Your nominations invited..)

1. Mili Avital: NY-based semi-retired American-Israeli actress; has played four different roles on Law & Order  (SVU and Criminal Intent), including Russian mail order bride, panicked mother of kidnapped boy, and loopy  heiress); Sheherazade in "Arabian Nights"; and most notably, love interest of Dr. Jackson (James Spader) in "Stargate."  She's a chameleon: can play just about any ethnicity with any accent.
Unless TBL plans to age up Lotte Verbeek to play KR in 2017, Mili Avital would be perfect (and a nice reunion of actors that'd please Stargate afficionados).

2. Roy Dotrice: He's in his 90's now, but still active. He's the man of a thousand voices who does all of the audiobooks for George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire books. Best remembered for playing "Father" in Beauty and the Beast TV series (w/ Ron Perlman aka Luther Braxton as Vincent "The Beast"), Mozart's father in "Amadeus", and more significantly, the Russian figure skating coach in "The Cutting Edge" ~ 25 years ago. Unrecognizable, but most recently appeared as pyromancer Hallayne (?) who provided the wildfire for Tyrion in the "Blackwater" episode of Game of Thrones. He'd be perfect for any elderly Russian character from KR's or Red's past. His accents are flawless.

3. Linda Fiorentino: Shot to stardom as the femme fatale in "The Last Seduction" ,  the coroner in "Men in Black",  foreign spy in "Gotcha!", and Paul Newman's co-star in "Where the Money Is" [I think that's the title]..., but then kind of vanished from the radar.

4. Laura Benanti: Now plays TV Supergirl's evil aunt and (twin of) deceased mother, and a few months ago appeared as "Melania Trump" in spoofs on Stephen Colbert's show, but she's a Tony Award-winning actress who'd be ideal as associate, foil, rival, or romantic interest for Red.

5. Ned Beatty: If he's still around, I'd love to see him in anything, after seeing his turn in "Hear My Song."

6. Debra Winger: I think she may have gotten fed up with ageism, but anyone who grew up with "An Officer and a Gentleman" and "Urban Cowboy" would love to see her again.

7. Tim Curry: Dr. Frank N. Furter (?) in the original Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Pennywise the Clown in the miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's "It." Theatricality would be ideal for a flamboyant Blacklister -- or even a weirdo henchman a la DMV Glen and oxygen-tank interrogator guy (Brimley? Forgot his name...)

I'd nominate JS's co-stars in the guilty pleasure movie "Tuff Turf", but Robert Downey, Jr. is too big of a megastar now, and Kim Richards has devolved into an alcoholically-challenged Real Housewife of Beverly Hills.

Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions they'd be willing to share  ???

* It's easy to overlook the excellent job TBL casting department has done in attracting big-name talent. Of the top of my head, the cast has included: Dianne Wiest (Ruth Kipling aka "The Judge"),
Mary Louise-Parker (Carla/Naomi) Jennifer Ehle (Madeline Pratt), William Sadler (Sam), Fisher Stevens (Marvin Gerard), Alan Alda (Alan Fitch), Ron Perlman (Luther Braxton), Brian Dennehy (Dom), Isabella Rossellini (Floriane Campo), Ana de la Reguera (Vanessa Cruz), Andrew Dice Clay (Dr. Abraham Maltz), David Strathairn (Peter Kotslopulos aka "The Director"), Jane Alexander (Dianne Fowler), Lotte Verbeek (Katarina Rostova; KR's "ghost"), Paul Reubens (Mr. Vargas), Lance Henriksen ("The Major"), Leon Rippey (Hunter/Mr. Kaplan's rescuer/captor), Famke Janssen (Scottie? [forgot her name]), Tony Shalhoub (Alistair Pitt), Frank Whaley (Karl Hoffman aka "The Good Samaritan Killer"), Clifton Collins, Jr. (forgot character's name), Richie Coster (Anslo Garrick), Oded Fehr (Levi? Shur? -Mossad guy/Navabi's ex), Robert Sean Leonard (Dr. Frederick Barnes), Krysten Ritter (Rowan Mills), John Glover (Dr. Bruce Sanders - "Space Agent" virologist guy in looney bin), Peter Stormare (Berlin), Rachel Brosnahan (Lucy Brooks/Jolene), Amanda Plummer (Tracy Solobotkin aka "The Deer Hunter"), Peter Fonda (Geoff Perl), and a host of other veteran stars and character actors whose names and characters I haven't recollected.

Re: Nominations for Guest Star Candidates?

Hi Harry
I agree that the casting department has done a great job throughout the series in casting the guest actors.  I have to admit, somewhat embarrassed, but I don't recognize any of the names you listed  as "likes" to take on future roles, except for Debra Winger.  Although probably if I saw their faces I would recognize them and remember where I had seen them...I am and have always been useless with remembering names....

I would actually love to see William Shatner make an appearance, as a nod to Boston Legal if nothing else.  If they could write a short comedic role for him I think that would be great.  They could even write in a cigar smoking scene, LOL.  I think it would have been great if Shatner had popped up during that episode in season 1 when Red takes Liz to the cigar club - though I guess that scene didn't really call for humor which may have been out of place.  I would also love to see Red with a new love interest but hadn't got as far as to think who that might be.  Even bringing  back Maddie would be fun.

Re: Nominations for Guest Star Candidates?

Hi Harry - am enjoying your posts!  Tim Curry would be wonderful.  I'm a huge fan of Tony Shalhoub (was appeared as Alistair Pitt in TBL) and would enjoy seeing a few of his Monk co-stars, especially his wife Brooke Adams.  Stanley Tucci and John Turturro also never fail to impress.

Lara1 - totally agree about William Shatner from Boston Legal.  Would also thoroughly enjoy seeing Candice Bergen, Betty White, Shelley Berman, and Leslie Jordan.  Wish Henry Gibson was still alive - he was a favorite of mine on the show.

Colleen - I recognized some, but not all of your suggestions, and agree they would be good.  Yes Boston Legal had a great all around cast....

I had some further thoughts on this too and I think any of the former co-stars from POI would be absolutely awesome as Blacklisters of the week.  And the guy who played the lead role, I forget the actor's name - told you I was bad with names!  LOL - would be great as one of Red's contacts, a science or computer guru the Post office team or Liz would go to for some sort of obscure "answers" or expertise of some sort.  (BBB can you help me here, who played the lead role?).   ugh I'll have to look it up.

Re: Nominations for Guest Star Candidates?

Obviously everyone knows I'm a big Person of Interest fan - - - - so naturally I'd advocate for some of the terrific main cast utilized by that show over its epic 5 year, 103 episode run.

1. Amy Acker - the redoubtable "Root" - nothing short of amazing - and one of the greatest female characters in television history (no hyperbole required). Perhaps cast her with her doopelganger, Jane Leeves as Twin Female Assasins - and you've got the formula for more TBL Chaos.

2. Jim Caviezel - Reese on Person of Interest. Very strong male interest - perhaps for Scottie as Famke and Jim would re-unite two hi-grade film stars.

3. Sarah Shahi - the tiny mighty-mite of Person of Interest. She's just amazing - with so many uncanny expressions. Nobody plays droll better than Shahi

4. Kevin Chapman - the least known of the POI stars. Played Det. Lionel Fusco and he played it well.

5. Harold - as played by the great American stage and voice actor Michael Emerson. He'd be a great foil/friend to Spader - - - - and Red can always use a friend.

Taraji P. Henson was also great in POI but with her success in Empire (and the movies) it would be nigh on impossible to book her for TBL.

Others - I'm a huge Jim Parsons fan, also Michelle Obama might be a good pick (if she so desired) as someone who could stand up to Famke Janssen (literally & figuratively)

Re: Nominations for Guest Star Candidates?

I second the idea of William Shatner. Spader and Shatner played off each other so well in Boston Legal.

I'd also love to see some actresses who were Spader's movie co-stars cast, especially Susan Sarandon and Madchen Amick.

Big Bad Bazzer #5:
What a coincidence! I'd heard so many good things about Person of Interest that I've just started recording reruns.
Plus, I've also been a fan of Jim Cavaziel ever since seeing him play Dennis Quaid's son in "Frequency" (I still tear up over DQ's line to JC: "I'm still here Chief").
I'm not familiar with Amy Acker, but from her online picture she looks like she's got an expressive face.

    Also...
One candidate I had intended to list but neglected to do so before hitting "Submit":
Tony Todd. He may not be a household name, but you've almost certainly seen him and you'd definitely recognize his voice. He's 62 now, and he's been in close to 200 movies and TV shows. I first looked him up when I wanted to find out who played "Kurn", the Klingon with the mellifluos voice who kept taunting Warf in the "officer exchange program" episode of Star Trek the Next Generation. (It turned out the taunting Klingon Kurn was Warf's brother.) Tony Todd was also one of the mercenaries in "The Rock"; he was the one who demanded of the rogue General (Ed Harris), "I want my MONEY!"   Tony Todd has also been in lots of thriller and horror movies including the title role in the "Candyman" franchise, but I've never seen them.
Anyway, he'd be good for a Dembe-related episode, for which we're overdue.

Re: Nominations for Guest Star Candidates?

Harry - if you've never seen Acker work you're in for a treat. On the Person of Interest site I labelled her Amy Acktress - cuz almost everything she does is an acting clinic.
Won't ruin the show for you if you're watching it in sequence - Amy does not appear until late in Season 1, and really doesn't become a POI regular until Season 3.
Her trip is an awkward one, I must warn you - she comes onto the show as a regular shortly after the show-runners/producers decided to let the amazing & spunky Taraji P. Henson go. Who does that?
Amy and Sarah Shahi took the female roles from Henson - that caused a major stir in social media - because neither lady had the so-called gravitas of Henson.
The most common rejoinder of Amy by her fan acolytes was that she was a "perky psychopath" and I can't argue that. However, she's far more than that!
POI was one of the first organic TV dramas - where viewers felt they were and always will be part of the action. Keep in mind my six generation pedigree in watching great TV. My favourite shows over the years:

1. Rod Serling
2. The Fugitive w/ David Jansen
3. Have Gun, Will Travel w/ Mr. Boone
4. Hill Street Blues/The Blacklist (tie)
5. House
6. Original Doctor Who
7. I Love Lucy
8. Original Star Trek
9. MASH
10. Married with Children
11. Branded
12. Original 1950's Superman w/ George Reeves

But Person of Interest is definitely top of this list. Root and the cast will take you places you've never been watching TV - and beyond!
