Relief! So glad they didn't end with Liz being alive. Maybe the new "big baddie" will turn out to be very cunning.

That was a good twist with Marvin. They've set themselves up well for next season.

Re: Episode 9.22 - Marvin Gerard: Conclusion Part 2

Sorry to see a major/interesting baddie being offed. Didn't expect Marvin to take his own life - but he planted seeds for the destruction of Reddington in the next season of TBL.
Great collaboration scene at the end with all the stars (except Reddington) at Liz's grave. Very moving for the most part.
No clue about The Sisters and next season. If I had to bet they'll be taken off the program - especially if Marvin can be taken off the program.
Funny about such a cunning little monster (Marvin) - - - he was rounded up several times with little to no effort. That never bodes well for a major irritant/character on big-time series like this one.
Must admit I didn't see the suicide coming!

Re: Episode 9.22 - Marvin Gerard: Conclusion Part 2

NOTE: They can still use Fisher Stevens (Marvin), Liz (Boone) & Tom Keen in flashback scenes. Actually showed a pic of Tom from a way back last episode. So I think Fisher Stevens may reprise his role as Marvin Gerard next season, albeit in flashback sequences!

I hope so, BBB. Marvin was an interesting character.

Re: Episode 9.22 - Marvin Gerard: Conclusion Part 2

I haven't been able to sit and watch the whole thing uninterrupted since I've had a house guest since Friday but I did see the very last 15 minutes all the way through on Friday. I guess they had to get rid of Marvin to further the story. Nice touch with Wujing showing up at the end.

I will comment more after I finally sit and watch the whole thing start to finish, but I wanted to share a link to an article detailing the departures of Amir Arison and Laura Sohn:

Thanks for the article, HW. I will miss Aram, but the writers have a lot of new stories.

Good pool of actors to choose from for Blacklist 10. The entire cast of Magnum, P.I. is available thru cancellation. Jay Hernandez (Magnum) might make a good 3rd peg in the post office. Perdita Weeks would be a more than decent female lead as the current TBL female lead is recurring guest star Deirdre Lovejoy. Tim Kang also plays tough-talking police types. Others that should be considered for the female lead = Amy Acker, Sarah Shahi, Levy Tran & Tristin Mays (latter two from cancelled MacGyver)

One other actor idea for TBL10 - Tony Dinozzo from NCIS, as played by Michael Weatherly who's most recent series Bull just ended. Of course, Weatherly, after 23 yrs of playing TV characters has stated he'd like to take a break so a quick transition to another set, new directors, new actors, etc. might not be in the offing.
Doesn't rule out some of Bull's exceptional cast members including Geneva Carr or the lady who plays the ex-cop, Jamie Lee Kirchner. Chris Jackson the Broadway star who played Chunk is also available.

Think you're right. The Big Fish is Spader - everyone else kinda pales in comparison to him so why even try. Fisher Stevens tried hard to be a mini-Spader but the scripts got the best of him.

If this were TBL mid-stream, ie. Season 4 to 7 then I suspect they'd be forced to come up with at least 1 name brand actors.

While on the subject the actress most similar to Liz Keen's Megan Boone is Chloe Bennet, Bennett a bit younger, same stature, even similar voices. Bennett is not a huge Hollywood or TV superstar. I bet she'd fill any role she's given quite well. She was the biggest surprise on Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. where she was on for most of their 134 episode run.

I am going to miss Marvin.  I was sorry they used his character against Red. I do not know why they didn't choose someone with a lower number who was still alive.

Thanks for posting the link HW, I will read that soon.

BB, that's a nice list for female leads.  I was disappointed they canceled Magnum P.I.

Re: Episode 9.22 - Marvin Gerard: Conclusion Part 2

BBB - I would be delighted if they cast Chloe Bennet in the show! She would bring a lot to the table.
I'm still disappointed in how Agents of Shield wrapped up, but I'll save that discussion for another day, another forum.

Eastcoast - I agree. I think they've made some major mistakes with the characters. I hope that they can get back to the show's roots in Season 10.

I suspect there's a lot going on behind the scenes in terms of politics and writing. I would suggest that they get back to good story-telling. There's still stuff to unpack from the whole Russian spy arc, and there could be a "real" Katerina emerge, as well as other compelling characters.

Re: Episode 9.22 - Marvin Gerard: Conclusion Part 2

Taking into account HW’s revelation that upcoming Season 10 starts late and ends early, it seems virtually certain that TBL is now on automatic pilot to THE END. Full stop.

Also relevant is the revelation (again, thank you HW) that Sony prevented Bokenkamp from ending the series the way he wanted. That impediment may have affected the endings of both Season 8 and 9.

One wonders exactly when the TBL writers got the green lights for another season. Several times during Seasons 8 and 9 it struck me that the writers were improvising, marking time among multiple tracks until they knew whether they were wrapping it up or would have another season.

Season 9 especially contained some jolting hinge points where a character went illogically and STUPIDLY rogue. One such point was when Aram double crossed Red by arresting a Black Lister with whom Red had promised a safe quid pro quo. TOTALLY out of character for Aram. And DUMB. The notion that Aram would endanger Cooper, the Task Force and Red with this foolish ambush was inexplicable and ad hoc.

Marvin’s betrayal, to me, had the same jolting impact. Marvin was a legal tactician, a loyal colonel to Four Star General Red. The notion that Marvin would suddenly endanger, frame or dispense with Heddie, Cooper, the Task Force, LIZZIE and Redington because of Marvin's Lizzy-resentment was hard for me to process.  Likewise difficult to believe was that lawyer Marvin actually was making the complex, 5-dimensional high-level business, crime and killing decisions that Red routinely made among his global crime partners.

As others above correctly noted, it was brilliant for the writers to resurrect Wu Lin from Season 1 to unleash the entirety of living TBL villains to rub out the Crime Concierge in the 12 episodes that remain. Personally I hope that Redarina, Ilya and Agnes all escape to TBL Principal Protection and live happily ever after with their seminal series secret. Even better if some of the hotties cited above appear in cameos.
