Episode 9.18 - Laszlo Jankowics

I wonder what we will learn tonight? Only five more episodes left in season 9.

I don’t have any snacks planned yet, but I’m sure I can find something! I was thinking about baking some oatmeal raisin cookies!

Re: Episode 9.18 - Laszlo Jankowics

Thanks for starting the thread, HW. I love oatmeal raisin cookies! I had one slice of chocolate cheese cake.

Okay, I'm calling it first! That wasn't actually Mr. Kaplan: it was a hologram! Or maybe a robot, but I'm going with a hologram.

The jury is still out on whether Mr. Kaplan is actually alive, but I'm going with those who say she is, but she wasn't actually at that meeting. I'll be interested in what others think.

Hey, it looks like we get rid of both Park and Weecha! Sounds good to me.

Only 5 episodes left? Time is flying.

Park still on the go. I fear for Ouija Board's future!
Mr. Kaplan's sister is prolly the killer but if its anything to do with TBL lore, we'll never know. Only suspect . . .
Why would we ever suspect Kate's sister of being a killer? #1 Clue is she's gentle - its called the misdirection swerve!

Re: Episode 9.18 - Laszlo Jankowics

Whoa! Well, another Lukas Reiter ep.

So was it Kate? Or was it Maureen impersonating Kate? Or someone else impersonating Kate? IW I like your hologram/robot ideas. LOL!  One thing for certain. It was a trap. For Red? For Clara?

One thing I think and that is that Kate would not have gotten Liz killed. That’s the part I can’t figure.

The best moment was Brimley in the wetsuit. You know, they always say what the audience can imagine is always way better than what they can show. And I think what they do with Brimley is absolutely brilliant. First you have the character, expertly played by Teddy Coluca. Then you outfit him with various unusual props, either animals or instruments and you know he is using them somehow to torture information out of someone. But it’s his commentary on what he discovers and his colorful descriptions, oh my! I just love him!

Well, with all the comments about how much Maureen resembled Kate, I agree BBB, misdirection.

And Crazy Laszlo, the Lion King, is still out there…

LOL!

Well, we haven't had a good bonkers crazy blacklister for awhile. The nice thing about them is they are not very predictable, so they can have them do pretty much anything. Nor have we had a real cliffhanger like that one for awhile! Can't wait to see how they tie all of this together.

Meanwhile I read a fun interview with Teddy Coluca where he talks about all kinds of things, but the parts about playing Brimley are pretty fun. The stinky badger and a goat that was so stubborn they had to rewrite an entire scene. I'll try to find the link, but if you search for him it's about the only actual interview out there.

Re: Episode 9.18 - Laszlo Jankowics

The only thing I fear from the cliff-hanger is Red losing his superb bodyguard Weecha Xiu; Diany Rodriguez who plays Weecha is about the only TBL actor who underplays her character - much like Dembe Zuma in his first 2 or 3 years on the show. Ressler, Park, Aram, Harry Lennix, Brimley, Red all have a tendency to play their characters over the top. Rodriquez does not. But she was getting a bit anxious when Red was rehearsing that informant for American citizenship. Anyone else notice that?

Looking at it more carefully, that is definitely Maureen in the building at the end.

Maureen might go down as The Blacklist's most diabolical - and yet enduring characters. I suspect her diabolical game will be semi-revealed (things never fully revealed on TBL) w/ the deaths of most of Seal Team Red + serious injuries (or death) to Weecha Xiu.  Maureen & her team set the fiery mousetrap so she had an exit plan.

Maureen totally fooled Red, that is to be sure and verified by Red being stunned by the advance.
Kate & Maureen were in kahoots from the get-go, Maureen's stoic and relaxed personality in small-town America under witness protection a perfect cover for a vicious criminal - who's endgame is to torment Team Red, Cooper, The FBI team, even Elizabeth - and surely Panabaker - now a U.S. senator!

Re: Episode 9.18 - Laszlo Jankowics

This was definitely one of the best and craziest episodes of the season. It delves back in the past of the show and we see some familiar characters or their relatives back. Laszlo Jankowics is one of the creepiest blacklisters we've had in a while and it looks like he may even come back at some point. Rogelio and Brimley add a good dose of fun to the episode.

Like this episode and the previous one, the season's plot is all over the place. The investigation of Cooper's blackmailer seems to hit another dead end, Park's position is getting insecure and, most importantly, Mr. Kaplan may or may not be alive. I'm still on the side that believes she's dead, as killing Liz would not be in her plan, but I honestly have no clue what more to expect from the final episodes. With 9.21 having a TBA title, it looks like we're gonna have a good old two-part finale which may mean that we will finally meet the person behind it all.

Re: Episode 9.18 - Laszlo Jankowics

The question might be who is Maureen really working for? The Others (to borrow from LOST) who are out there probably have contacts in all areas of the government including Witness Protection and could have recruited her to help keep Red and the Task Force at bay. They probably thought that he had dropped out of everything, but now since he is looking for Liz's killers he is back, along with the task force, and a definite threat to them again.

I agree, TheYeti, I always like it when they dredge up elements from past episodes. The blacklisters are all connected and sometimes I forget about that.

Re: Episode 9.18 - Laszlo Jankowics

I was going to post the link to the Teddy Coluca interview but my browser keeps saying it's not a secure connection and won't let me get to it to post here. But one of the things he touched on was the exit of Jon Bokenkamp. He implied that JB left because Sony wouldn't let him finish the series the way he originally intended it to end. As you all recall, he had said it was a somewhat controversial ending. So my takeaway is that what we are seeing isn't exactly what JB originally had in mind.

Re: Episode 9.18 - Laszlo Jankowics

True, HW, and I hope JB makes a Blacklist movie one day. But for now, I really appreciate the way the show has picked up. There are still writing problems to solve, but there's a lot more that interests me than there was during the first part.

I wish they would bring in Tom Bond's "sister" or some such and give some closure that whole arc. I'm sure Agnes doesn't know a lot about her father. She and the audience could both find out more about his history at the same time.
