Episode 9.5 - Benjamin T. Okara

Hmmmm. Dembe's new position causes complications. Do ya think?
See you all on the other side!

Thanks for starting the thread, HW!

Eastcoast, it's a slice of carrot cake and decaf coffee for me tonight. What's on your plate?

Re: Episode 9.5 - Benjamin T. Okara

Episode shoulda been titled 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'
Fairly unsatisfying ep, featuring a self-disposing Blacklister - featuring the worst writing, direction & production of this so very promising season.
Agent Alina hasn't made a very compelling case as a top character. Still a side character as far as I'm concerned. But she wasn't the only let-down.
The black-lister was an abject failure. Park was mostly in neverland. But they weren't the worst performers. Harold easily gets the booby prize (Sacklister) for worst character study, following by the beat cop assigned to his case and his wife. Harold's neighbor should be given the best uncredited part of the night.

Best of Nite = Red's two female enablers, Love + Hate. Love got a few nifty lines in, warning Red about the perils of doing trade w/ FBI Dembe. Hate, the more violent and gun-wielding member of Red's Duo, ending up doing Dembe's dirtywork in the penultimate scene.

Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned. . . >! >! !>

BB, it just felt all over the place to me.

I will be glad when we can see what the problem is between Red and Dembe.  It really isn't working for me.

Re: Episode 9.5 - Benjamin T. Okara

Agreed. Not a stellar episode. If they don't want to be replaced mid-season by "transplant" (or something else), they really need to step up their game. My main overall complaint: the chemistry is "off"
They need a badass female lead to take on Red, not Dembe.

Maybe invent "Tom Bond's" sister? (Agnes' aunt?) who has a Russian connection?

Re: Episode 9.5 - Benjamin T. Okara

Now that's an idea, IW! I agree, they need someone who can go up against Red and not be Dembe. Naturally Red and Dembe are in a state of major disagreement right now, but that just doesn't work as well as having someone actively trying to take him down. It looks like they are finally done with the "bringing him back" part of the story, so now maybe they can get to work and give him some worthy adversaries. And please don't make Dembe into another Kate!

I keep reading that they will have a story that explores what led up to the Red/Dembe split, though, so maybe it will be coming soon. Of course they are off until Dec. 9th due to Thanksgiving next week.

Re: Episode 9.5 - Benjamin T. Okara

Female lead to take on Red? Enter Amy Acker or Sarah Shahi . . .

Laura Sohn just doesn't have much stage presence although she's a good actor in her own right.

Cynthia Panabaker's character is basically comedy relief - and she's exceptionally good at it. Just not the right foe for Red. The Asian lady from MacGyver might also be a good foe although she doesn't have the experience of either Acker or Shahi.
