Re: Episode 8:10, Laken Perillos

Thanks for starting the thread BBB! I was out at 5pm my time and nowhere near an electronic device! That's a rare thing! I still have over an hour until air time out this way.

Re: Episode 8:10, Laken Perillos

Thanks, Baz! Yes, I'm busy. The snow melted and I've been raking and pruning while the 50s temps are here.

Tonight's show was better in the back half, I thought. I really like the character development with Dembe, but I didn't like the first part. I'm sore from raking and he really looked in pain, too.

No Liz. They really need to bring her back. I wonder what's going on. She's been gone for awhile.

Eastcoast, I stopped at Subway and got a sandwich to go. My snack was two of their M&M cookies. Mine are better! But I wanted to watch the show, not mess around in the kitchen.

So it sounds like we get to wait two weeks for the next installment. I think I'd better go get a movie from the library next week.

Re: Episode 8:10, Laken Perillos

The super star of tonite's ep was no doubt, Dembe. Spader was his usual brilliant.

The lady who played Dr. Laken Perillo was nifty - in a cool, criminally insane way! But I've seen her character before. She's just a larger, more morose version of Kasie Hines from NCIS, as played by Diana Reasonover.

But tonite was ALL DEMBE. . . . even Harold told him he'd make a great investigator . . . ! ! !

Re: Episode 8:10, Laken Perillos

I had problems watching both Dembe and Red be tortured.  This is the sixth week without Liz.  Where is Megan Boone?

Re: Episode 8:10, Laken Perillos

Dembe stories are always good. He’s a terrific, complex character. And Hisham plays him just right.
But what did we really get from the story? We got the seasonal Red torture story, the affirmation of Dembe’s loyalty, and Red's major concern over whether Liz will "cross the Rubicon" as he obviously had done in the past. Presumably when he gave up having a normal life.

A little too much torture for my taste, but I guess they really wanted us to know just what a damaged person this doctor is. I was surprised that she survived the episode, so I guess we’ve got another really nasty Blacklister in the still living column.

Red did tell Townsend that it was Katarina who had killed his family and that he had killed Katarina.
And now Townsend "owns" Ruddiger. A lot of the pieces in the game keep getting captured by or go over to the other sides. I wonder what color Townsend and his affiliates are on the Map? Red, green or blue?

Still no Liz, even though Red was addressing her from the torture chamber. I wonder if she was somewhere that she heard him? It seems like still, no matter what, he doesn’t want her "to be like me."

Re: Episode 8:10, Laken Perillos

Didn't have high expectations for this episode to be honest. We have a torture episode pretty much each season, and this time they made the Blacklister of the week all about that. Usually when episodes are hyped up this much, they disappoint.

This wasn't the case for me in this episode. Yes, it's another torture episode, but it's executed really well and I think Perillos was a very engaging character. They make you feel sympathy for her backstory (which highlights an important issue without becoming too preachy), yet show her as a true psychopath. With other characters as well, this episode shows to what lengths people can go to avenge their family and it does so in a scarily convincing way.

I wasn't too convinced of Townsend being the new big villain in the last episode, but this one made him more compelling. Like Perillos, fighting for his family takes him deep into the darkness, which is especially seen in the final scene with Max Ruddiger. I hope we will see him back alive, but I fear the worst.

So far this is a hit-and-miss season. The writers have dug themselves in a hole with the Liz storyline, but the Russians, Townsend and the weekly blacklisters provide enough entertainment to keep watching. I think this is one of the better episodes of the season, so I still have some positive expectations for what's to come. I just hope they manage to write themselves out of the Liz storyline and make her part of the taskforce again in some way.

Yeti - This season is more miss than hit for me.  I loved the first two episodes, the Glen tribute and last week's episode.  The others were not interesting to me. The continued stretching of the story and the lack of Liz turn me off. But still, I haven't been able to stop watching.

Re: Episode 8:10, Laken Perillos

Delaying Liz's return to screen action and giving her unlimited near-immutable offscreen power is interesting. Especially if Megan Boone was trying to cover a late pregnancy and they didn't want to write a pregnancy into an already too complex story-line. So working her offscreen with huge criminal powers is an interesting way to develop her - and while I'm not the biggest M. Boone fan (she was an awkward & really vapid screen presence first 3 to 4 yrs of show) - - - - restraining her from the bulk of the latest season may serve as a deprivation technique for fans who will flock back to the show once Megan is re-installed.

immo

Re: Episode 8:10, Laken Perillos

I was wondering if she was pregnant, as well. I have friends with several "pandemic babies" on the way.
Yes, the writers have given themselves some major tasks. I'd like to get back to the Russian stuff and see some loose ends tied up. They could do a dream sequence and a "graveyard scene" with Tom that could be helpful. That whole arc about the Major was lost. Oh, and I guess she doesn't have dog anymore at all.

Liz is back, yea!  It is just weird not having her on there.  But I agree with BB about her off screen presence.  But I think its been long enough.

They are going to rerun 16 Ounces this Friday.  Interesting choice, but not my favorite episode. Blowing up a hospital room makes her look like she is crazy....
