Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

Here we go!  See you on the other side.

IowaWatcher, what kind of goodies do you have for tonight?

Local strawberry ice cream with some homemade chocolate sauce. What did you have?

Good show tonight! Wish we could've seen that last year. That would've made more sense.

It's setting up to be a nail-bitter the rest of the season.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

I guess the title - 16 ounces - referred to the explosive.  Liz truly has gone over the edge now.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

Whoah boy! When I saw the John’s and Lukas Reiter wrote it I knew this would be good. Oh and how they pulled the curtain back just a little, here and there. Liz has every right to be mad. What would be the biggest tragedy if she killed him.  And he is still going to leave her most of his stuff. I just love Marvin!

Lots to digest.

And Liz ends up spending the night with Ressler.

I suspect that Red is going to tell Harold a lot, but it will be off camera and only Harold will know for awhile.

I did get a chuckle over Liz trying to blow him up with high explosives. That just so made me think of Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote and once that got into my mind I couldn’t get rid of it. But it did set up the "Keenler" moment.

I’ll write more later after I rewatch a couple of the scenes.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

Tuxie,  she should have known!  I was waiting for Marvin to open the door.  Now we know Red is going to have that woman killed.

HW, that is funny.  The Roadrunner always wins!

I wonder what Liz is up to?  She seams to be up to something. She took something from Aram, I imagine Ressler has something she can use against Red.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

Honey West - LOL - It was sort of like Wile E. Coyote with his TNT.  I wonder if Liz will use anvils next.  I wonder if the decision to have Liz choose to blow up Red didn't blow up the show instead.

I enjoyed seeing Cooper get more screentime, and I enjoyed his little heart-to-hearts with Liz and then Red.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

I love coconut custard pie. Yum. Great snack, Eastcoast!

Re: explosives -- I thought about how that sequence could've been done another way, but the explosives make sense, plus Dom tried to use that method. It seems like they also set up Aram to be Liz's Enemy #2, after #1 Red.

My only problem right now is with how fast Liz went from "Love conquers all" to wanting to blow up Red. I'm cutting the show a lot of slack because of the pandemic, and I know we're seeing some scenes out of their intended order. I still wish I could've seen this show back in 2020 instead of now.

I'm not sure what's happening next Friday, 1/29. My listings have another show, not Blacklist. I hope that's a mistake. I'd like to see several more episodes in a row.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

Good to see EC, IW, and Tuxie! I was wondering if we would still get any discussions going 8 years into this thing! LOL! Even if it is only our show watching snacks.

I realize the bomb  was just a plot device to move the story in specific directions. Logically, she would have sent Esi in to just shoot him. I totally expected her to try to smother him with a pillow, not have the Wile E. Coyote bomb with her. But that wouldn't have gotten Ressler almost killed and lead up to them spending the night together after she felt terrible about that. And it wouldn't have given them time to run around and have an explosion that nobody else seemed to hear or see? Or have her have that conversation with Aram where he figured out she had duped him with the coffee spill so she could steal his requisition form and get the explosive in the first place. It was almost like she wanted Aram to figure it out, because she was sloppy (or in too big a hurry) in leaving the drawer partly out and the corner of the torn off form still on the pad. Aram is tidy, he would never leave it like that.

So, was Red drawing an exact parallel between his relationship with Dom and Liz's relationship with him? I got the idea that if we knew the nature of the Red/Dom relationship we would be able to figure out the true Liz/Red relationship. Could it be yet another HarborMaster's Daughter thing? Dom got one or both of Red's parents killed and took him under his wing? Maybe that's why we got a familial vibe without Red being related? Of course, he could still be related. Isn't it crazy how they've managed to keep us guessing (and still interested) for so many years?

Anyway, Jodi Walker's EW recap is pretty good. I still laugh when I read her term "warehousepital". And she's got some good points.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

I guess what surprised me in this was Liz using a explosives.  Not exactly descret. 🙄 nothing like alerting everyone that someone just died of unnatural causes. The second thing would be that Esi went along with it.  I am guessing they want us to know she has gone a bit over the edge as Tuxie mentioned.
Esi knows she is good as dead.  What made her think Dembe wouldn't come after her even if Red died?

I guess the whole idea of her doing that just seamed out there.  I would expect her to at least try to cover her trail. Very sloppy as HW pointed out.

When Red coughed on the window, I was thinking what a great DNA sample she could have.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

Honey West - Yes, they still have managed to keep us guessing after 8 years.

Eastcoast - I also thought about the blood on the car window being a great DNA sample.

IowaWatcher - Good point about the Liz's explosives mirroring Dom's attempt to kill "Katarina."

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

Good point about the DNA sample, EC. I didn't even think about that. All I thought about was okay, now he's coughing up blood. What the heck is wrong with him? I thought it was a brain thing.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

"Great DNA sample" -- wow! You're right. I didn't think of that. I hope that work that into the story line at some point.

I'm going to try not to analyze things too much. The show is more fun when I'm just going along for the ride. Still, there are some mysteries. I still don't buy that Fakerina was actually her mom. We still don't know her true motivation(s).

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

HW & Iowa - I'm thinking the same thing that if Fakerina was her mom but wasn't Katarina, or some such switcheroo. I'm likewise just enjoying it until the final reveals.

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

I somehow fuddgged up on watching last Friday, instead watching my usual doobell-header of MacGyver and Magnum, PI. Forget to switch to NBC. Now I find out my on demand cable package doesn't have TBL.

Anyone know a good streaming service where I can watch the darn thing?

I will reward you with a profuse THANK YOU . . . ! ! ! lol

Re: Episode 8.3, 16 Ounces.

Hey BBB, can you watch on the NBC website? I think you're in Canada, right? So maybe not? The episode is up there on:
https://www.nbc.com/the-blacklist

I can't speak to the streaming services as my broadband is too slow in my area to do it, so I have never looked into it.

Good to hear from you, Laocoon! We have had so many switcheroos, red herrings, etc. that anything is possible. And now that they have a season 9 we can just sit back and go along for the ride, enjoying the writing and the characters we've come to know...or think we know! LOL!

Meanwhile, if you don't mind a little spoileriness, check out the 8.04 clip I posted about earlier today. A reveal by Dembe is probably the setup for the next season's stories.

Thanks HW,
I'll try this route. Just hate that I was watching MacGyver while Blacklist was on last week and my  mind refused to notice. MacGyver also very good but not in TBL's league!

Thia may be the wrong place to post THIS, but I'm calling it... Liz is going 'an eye for an eye', meaning Red killed her mom so she's killing his 'son' - Dembe!

If Liz ends Dembe, that will certify TBL's final season. Dembe dead, her little girl growing up, Ressler & the post office complicit, Red dying. Don't see how they can build a drama of more than a few episodes with Liz as lead.
