Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

You can tell it's a slow afternoon out West. Here is the episode discussion for tonight! Although, I guess it's only a couple of hours for you folks on the east coast!

WHAT am I watching here?

Re: Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

Yes, rather disjointed episode tonight, or I might be tired. I'll be re-watching this one later next week. Like last week, the best part was the last 4 minutes.

Eastcoast, I dug out my pint-sized ice cream maker and made some chocolate mint ice cream, which didn't get very hard, but it was still good. Ice cream is in very short supply out there, so that was my treat for tonight. What was on your plate?

All, this is the first network TV I have watched all week. I needed a break, so the TV was either off, or I watched several cooking shows on Create TV (Iowa PBS). Hope everyone is OK!

Honeywest,  slow afternoons are good for catching up on things.

Redismycopilot,  we were watching crazy, that's what.

I wondered why he would be taken?  I thought maybe it has to do with Red.  I went back and forth.  At the end, I was not happy when I saw the wicked witch come in.  I really don't like her....

Iowawatcher,  I have some fruit and cake.

I just bought some whipping cream so I can make some vanilla bean icecream this weekend.   It has been a while.  We were on the same wave length.   🍧

Not a particularly riveting episode tonite. Watching Scump drown on national TV was far more interesting - even if you hate that 400 lb. slab of orange vermin.
Best scene was Laila Robbins showing up at the end - conducting the interrogation of Dembe's friend.
Junior actor played the # - not particularly well.
The Post Office players - ho-hummin' there way thru another tedious, disjointed script.

Red passing out after a couple hard coughs? Who coulda seen that stiff-hanger coming?

BBB - Siff-hanger Haha! It wasn't' one of the better episodes. I found both storylines very confusing during the first half of the episode.

Eastcoast - I agree the last 4-5 minutes were the best. So now we know Liz was having Ilya surveilled for her mother.

The murder/baby/money storyline sort of reminded me of Season 1's Cyprus Agency.

Re: Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

Sort of The Apothecary meets The Cypress Agency meets Lady Ambrosia. This guy is as icky as Asa Hightower. His caring for the children doesn’t begin to excuse how he got them. Didn’t we have an earlier Liz cold case? I mean literally, with the frozen people. Can’t remember the title.

According to Blacklist Writers Twitter JB has been wanting to use that DMORT in a story for years. They called it "Bokencandy".

So they let Liz's PI (Esi Jackson) go so she could feed Liz false info about Ilya. And pass along a legit clue about the Sikorsky Archive. Oh boy, something new!

Gotta love Dembe. He doesn’t give up. Red: "Elizabeth knows I’m not ilya; I wonder what else she knows?" Dembe: "Perhaps you should ask her; she’s waiting in the park.

So I guess Katarina figured out what Red learned tonight: that Dembe tells his Imam everything. And he is someone Dembe cares about. A valuable chess piece.

Okay Ressler Bros. what’s buried under that field? Or maybe "who"?

It appears the Wagyu beef didn’t agree with Red. My theory is that his health issue might be some lingering after effects of his poisoning by Asa Hightower a couple of years ago. Didn’t he do a lot of coughing in that episode? It’s a little too soon for it to be...a...virus! But I guess it could be anything the writers want it to be. Stay tuned!

Re: Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

I'm surprised at the negative reactions to this episode. I felt like it was quite captivating. Even though serial killer plots are usually a sign of writers being out of inspiration, this is one of the better ones and it had some interesting twists. I think Ressler's statement about this week's blacklister is totally true. The fact that Hatcher did all of this because he believed it to be right makes him much more creepy than the numbers that were simply evil.

There were also pieces being set up for future episodes regarding Ressler's story, Red's health (is this what Spalding Stark was making a medicine for?) and KR's comeback. I'm glad they're picking up the main storylines again although I'm not sure whether there'll be enough episodes in this season to wrap it all up.

Re: Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

Yeti - I think the Blacklister plot was clever, but it took far too long to figure out what was happening. For this to be a good episode, I would have needed more clues earlier in the episode. The imam subplot was confusing too. While the reveals in both storylines were satisfying, 35-45 minutes of confusion was not. And I didn't get any good feeling scenes to offset my confusion. I could have used a heartwarming or funny scene thrown in there.

Laila Showing up slivering in with her Snake Skin, truly depicted my thoughts of her!  She is the real snake in the grass!  🐍

I'll be interested to see where the Sikorsky archives take us ... https://www.sikorskyarchives.com/

Cate, yes it will.

So before I forget,  did anyone else notice that the PI left her door unlocked again?  Lol.

Re: Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

Wow, Cate. Thanks! I missed that Sikorsky was a real person. I've got some reading to do.

I rewatched the episode and totally agree with Eastcoast's comments, especially more clues at the beginning. Maybe there wasn't time to film some of the early scenes?

Good point, IowaWatcher, about the possible "missing" scenes. We know that they generally had three episodes at various stages of production at any given time. We could be getting into them having to use what footage had been shot before production shut down. I recall that they changed the air order of a couple of the episodes, I think one was "Brothers" which airs next week. Not sure if they switched it with this one or the one to follow it. I'll have to look it up.

Re: Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

From what I read, Brothers was supposed to air after what is now ep. 18 "Roy Cain". That one was meant to be the 150th episode of the show, hence the blacklist number which is also 150.

Thanks, Yeti! I knew Brothers had been shifted, but couldn't remember where.

Re: Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

FYI ALERT - former Blacklist cast member Natalie Paul has surfaced on tonite's episode of "GOD FRIENDED ME" . . . . almost didn't recognize her until I saw her name in the opening credits.

I really liked her.  I wish they could have found a spot for her on the show.

Re: Episode 7.16 - Nyle Hatcher

I was thinking today that they made another reference to Rehoboth Beach and connected it to a dead body.  I have to wonder how many dead bodies Kaplan had hidden in graveyards?
