Ilya Koslov

A childhood friend of Katarina.

I took a few to look around out there and I was surprised to see that so many people
are bothered about Ilya being introduced as a character of the past.  I gathered that overall
it is because they had not heard his name before and didn't know he existed.

Am I taking that the right way?

I was not surprised to see him as a person from the past, as I would think
there are a lot of people from their past we have not heard of.

Re: Ilya Koslov

Are these people watching the same show we are?  This is the Blacklist - if they had a character we all heard about that would be the abberration!

Berlin was introduced out of nowhere to satisfy a main story line.
The Cabal was introduced out of nowhere to satisfy a main story line.
Mr. Kaplan was introduced out of nowhere to help Liz with the apple man.
The General was introduced out of nowhere to satisfy Tom's story line, as were Scotty and her husband.
Kirk was introduced as Katarina's husband and Masha's step-father out of nowhere.
Dom was introduced as Katarina's father out of nowhere.
The only main characters we knew to be looking for (besides Katarina herself) were Naomi and Jennifer.

I'm not at all surprised they pulled Ilya out of nowhere. I won't be surprised if more essential puzzle pieces are filled in with people out of nowhere going forward either.  I expect that's exactly what's going to be happening in Season 7.

Re: Ilya Koslov

If Red is Ilya, they've known him all along - just not under that name. I have other issues with the Ilya story, but having him introduced at this late date is not one of them.

Re: Ilya Koslov

Thanks guys!

Kathy, I had some of those in mind when I read those comments.  Thank you for listing them for us.

Re: Ilya Koslov

I just figure there is the entire World of the Cabal full of characters we don't know yet that may play into the Grand Finale of the show at some point. Not to mention the names we've heard like Seaduke, that could come back to play a part. The story is like a giant chess board and I don't think we've been given all of the pieces, not even half of them.
At least they don't have dragons...yet!

Re: Ilya Koslov

Leave the dragons over at HBO, please!

I'm not bothered by the introduction of Ilya. I have a new attitude toward this show and TV in general: I'm just going to roll with it, and if it bothers me that much, I'll stop watching and do something else, like I did with the True Blood series. I started that, gave it the first season, and then said, "Enough."

I've stayed with TBL because there's enough good mystery and decent writing to keep me hooked, but I'm no longer as invested emotionally as I was.

Yes, there's a lot of hate happening on Reddit (etc). I've been limiting my time on there and the Internet in general as summer is approaching.
