Someone on Reddit mentioned thatt his isn't the first time Liz has encountered someone with the Koslov/Kozlov name. The first official she met at the Russian Embassy in the Marvin Gerard episode was named Mikhail Kozlov. Liz told that Kozlov, "I'm not here to speak to a pawn without adequate clearance."

Wouldn't it be great to get one answer on the BL that wasn't shrouded in doubt?

On TBL - answers are usually shrouded as possibilities.
Prepare for more possibilities on the season-ender
And certainly no absolute answers on the first 3 or 4 eps of next season . . . . but more clues & possibilities.

I imagine that they are going to leave a lot for us to discuss this summer. I hope Dembe makes an appearance in the finale, even if he's just hanging out in Cario.
I've held off watching the last season of Game of Thrones. I'm going to start watching that right after the Blacklist finale so that I don't go through as much withdrawal.

My husband and I made the mistake of watching Person of Imterest so we're half way through. Should have waited until May!

Best TV show ever - immo
I've watched each of the 100+ episodes at least 3 times each, some 5 or 6 times. The construct is so brilliant, the acting, direction, music & writing are beyond superb. It will be very difficult to find any network show that comes up to the standard set by POI

I might get to Person of Interest this summer. It's on the list! Agents of Shield is coming back (in May?) for at least part of a season, if they haven't changed their minds, again. That comes after GoT.

1. I am taking as canon that the bones were Red's and that Red died in the fire. Ilya was there that night and helped Katarina pull him out, which is how he got the burns on his back. But for me, Fake Red is not Real Red. That has been put to rest as of last season.
2. I think Ilya knew Kirk. We don't know why Katarina married Kirk, (was it love or was it an assignment)and Red told Liz that Katarina loved Liz's father (Red) more than him(Ilya), so maybe Ilya wasn't a romantic threat to Kirk and as a long time friend of Katarina's he was a friend to Kirk as well. It would make sense that once Red told Kirk he was Ilya and not Red that Kirk would let him go.
3. I think something happened after Ilya became Fake Red that made it impossible for him to resume his life as Ilya, that forced Katarina back underground and put everyone's life in more danger than before. I think the writers/showrunners have many times withheld key parts of the story, they didn't just hide clues about it (Kirk, Berlin, Katarina, etc., and now Ilya - we had no idea who they were until they were revealed). And I believe they are withholding (so far) part 2 of the Ilya/Katarina/Liz story, the part that made Ilya continue to be Red, the part that puts Liz's life in danger, possibly even the part that caused Dom to continue to hide out. The part that caused Red to turn himself in to the FBI in the first place. Maybe Dom himself doesn't have the whole story which is why Red was so upset he told Liz as much as he did. But we are missing something vital - we can't figure it out yet, just like we could never have figured out Ilya was Red because we had never been introduced to a character named Ilya until this episode.
4. I'd like to know how Sam knew Katarina, Red and Ilya. Just curious, I don't believe it's vital to the story, just an interesting part of the puzzle for me.
PS - Agree that POI is a great show and if you haven't watched it and love the Blacklist, it would be great watching over the summer.

Hi KathyN - It's a long time since we've seen you post. Good to see you again! It may turn out that Ilya is the person who became Red. I find it highly suspicious that they didn't show the face of the person having surgery in the Koehler operation. But maybe they did that just to keep some theories alive.
What I would need explained to believe Ilya is Red is his connection to the Takoma Park house, ballerina girl., and Sam. I think Sam is a major part of the story. Red said he loved Sam and had known him for more than half his life and all of Liz's. I would need to know what kind of tremendous loss he suffered and what made him seek vengeance like Ressler did in Mako Tanida. Ilya in this story didn't seem to care about Reddington's reputation at all. Clearing RR;s name as a traitor was important to Red in the court cases. His escape plan came only after he "cleared his name." I can see that would be important to Katarina or real Red, but not to Ilyas.
I would need an explanation for Kaplan's words in Mato: "I betrayed you for the same reason I just betrayed Nikos– to keep Elizabeth safe, just like you asked me to all those years ago, when you first put her in my arms as a baby girl," Even if Ilyas was a friend of both Katarina and Constantine, why he would have told Kate to keep Masha/Elizabeth safe? Maybe there is an explanation involving Ilya losing his own daughter that explains this. We'll have to wait for more info.
The Ilya we met in Dom's story didn't seem to have the capacity to be Red. He's a love-sick sap and a good guy. There's no darkness an no wry humor. But maybe that came with 30 years on the job as Reddington. The one thing the Ilya story has going for it is his serious dedication to pledges and promises.
Lastly, Bokenkamp has always said when we know who Red is, the show is over. I wonder why they would tell us his idenity a year before the potential end of the series.

Hi KathyN, Nice to see you post!
Tuxie, I will say that had the impression from the way Sam spoke to Kat that he knew Reddington. I think we need to know more about Sam's background.
We also need to know what the "safe" issue is all about. The world knows by now who she is.
I don't feel like I got to see enough of Ilya. Need to see more for sure! We have no idea where he lived or anything of his family.
I did feel like he could be dark. I think loyalty is a huge issue with him, and if he felt Kat or someone else that he trusted like Aram betrayed Levi after all they were going through, that it would change him to a darker person.
For now, I can accept that he is our Red at that point of the show unless we get something else to show otherwise.
I did get a chance to hear GSM podcast. Aaron made a good point 44 - 47 minutes in, about things on screen being true so to speak. Did anyone else get a chance to hear it yet? I think he made a good point.
I would like to get some points of view of this.
Well, off to RL for now

Just because we see it on the screen doesn't make it true. What about Liz's death? We saw her heart stop and the paddles applied. We saw her put in a body bag and buried. Ilya's story isn't a true flashback. It's told by a third party who was there for only a small bit of the tale. If you watch closely, Liz is the director of Dom's story. He tells it to match what she already thinks she knows and what she believes. She guides the tall tale along.
That's what gets done to Liz every single time. Everyone lets her direct their stories being told to her. It's what is done to us, the audience, since we are Liz.

What parts of Dom's story are likely true?
1. Katarina did not die in the ocean.
2. It's highly probable she went to a church for sanctuary. We've seen Red do that on more than one occasion.
3. Katarina probably did recover in the homeless shelter. We know Red is a financial supporter of a homeless shelter, probably because of Katarina's experience with one. This is why Red identified and sympathized so much with the homeless woman last season.
4. Katarina probably did intervene in a domestic dispute and kill the abuser with a spoon. We saw Red intervene in a similar situation in the Marvin Gerard episode. And we've seen him use another kitchen tool, the meat thermometer, in a similar way.The story becomes less believable as soon as she leaves the shelter. I can't see Katarina being dumb enough to use dead guy's credit card to buy a tiny computer and pay for her hotel room. It leaves too much of a trail when you're desperate to "stay dead."
5. I believe Katarina helped Dom and her mother go into hiding. I question whether Dom was in Moscow when she contacted him.
6. Somehow Katarina acquired fake IDs and fake passports. This could have been done with help of someone like Ilya.It seems to me at least some of that RR bribe money had to have been acquired before the Koehler surgeries. Katarina was broke and Ilyas had supposedly liquidated his assets for Screen Mama. How would they have paid for the plastic surgery? If someone like Ilyas was involved in a bank withdrawal, Katarina likely used him to portray Reddington and act like he had changed his appearance.
7. The only other part of Dom's tale I believe for sure is that he last saw Katarina as a woman ws in the review of his Wagoneer

Honey West - This is weird. Our two posts are merged and my original isn't there. So strange.
But you are right. Red has always let Liz jump to her own conclusions and then never really confirms or denies.

KathyN, good to hear from you. I agree, I want to know how Sam, Illya, Katarina, Reddington, all knew each other. If Illya is who they say he is, then how did he know Sam, particularly? I've long wondered if Sam was only undercover as a grifter and con artist, maybe he was also a Russian spy. Maybe part of the Oleander thing. Red has also shown he has a thing for con artists and grifters. And then there's his friendship with carnies and the Smokey's of the world.
We really don't know anything about Illya other than what we were briefly shown in Rassvet. He could easily have lived in Takoma Park while working at the Embassy. Maybe his father was there, too? That would be funny because I've always thought that Red's father was maybe a diplomat of some sort, maybe US Embassy in St. Petersburg. It would be funny if it turned out to be the opposite. Maybe Illya grew up here instead and the Takoma Park house was his family's house? He never said when he lived anywhere. He could have been raised there. Maybe bubble girl was his sister or his daughter? All we know is that he and Katarina made a pledge when they were six. Perhaps that was when one of them moved to the US?

That is weird, Tuxie. I was trying to quote your post, but it came over without your part being quoted, so I went in and edited my reply post so your part was quoted. Maybe I accidentally got your original post in there somehow? I am the Admin, so maybe I have secret powers that even I don't know anything about.

Honey west, Tuxie,
I don't understand this adamant I insistence that everything on screen should be taken at face value. I just don't get it. Film and literature I'd the fictional sort are ever to be taken literally.

No, I think we only ever see a part of the surface at any given time. They try to lead us into conclusions just like they do to Liz.
For instance, what Dom presumed to do by telling Liz this story (true or not, doesn't matter) was to put it all behind them. Red thinks he may have made things worse. It's just like Kate presuming to take on the role of strategist and by making Liz dead, put that behind them, too. It always turns out that in the end, Red knows best, and they all end up paying for it one way or another. I think Dom did a Kate. Kate's presumption got her shot; with the unintended consequences of her not dying and opening up one gigantic can of worms in her wake. I wonder if Dom's "plan" will do the same thing.

If he does get shot, I predict it'll be by the Russians, not Red.
And I agree: I think there are some compelling parallels between the actions of Kate and Dom.

Tuxie, I was thinking about Liz and the fake death. I was wondering what everyone else thought. I do think they cannot give a lot of fake stuff because people will grow weary of it.
HW, I think what Red sees that Dom didn't is that Liz is wondering why he stayed Reddington after he got the money. He did not seam to like knowing she knew about the money. He knows she is going to poke around to find out.

Hey everyone, don't forget Blacklist will be on an hour earlier tomorrow and for the last two episodes. I just told my husband to remind me and I wrote myself a note. LOL
