Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

IW, Unless I hear JB say it is cannon, I do not know what to believe.  One part of me thinks he told the truth about the bones, but the other part of me knows he invented Red-speak.  He said KR went into the water and was never seen again.  We now know that is not true.  Not to me anyway.  Especially after this last episode.
I have seen too many fake DNA tests on this show to believe anything for sure right now.
On the bright side,  We will be getting another interview with JB soon, he always does one after the last episode.

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

Iowa Watcher - I think it's canon. The DNA report Garvey, Jennifer, Liz and Sutton Ross saw told them the bones were original Raymond Reddington.  But because the show has never explained how the match was made in CODIS or shown the report on screen, fans question it.  Bokenkamp has spelled out clearly in every interview following last year's reveal and on The Blacklist Exposed podcast previewing Season 6 that the bones were original Raymond Reddington, the Naval officer and father of both Jennifer and Liz. Especially on TBE podcast, Aaron asked the question several different ways and Bokenkamp didn't waver on that answer.

The Takoma Park house, Ballerina girl, etc. have yet to be explained - no matter who Red is. Many Redarina theorrists think Katarina likely lived in the Takoma Park house as a child - because Red comments he remembers it being bigger.  Even though he said he "raised his family there,"  they don't think he meant his own children. They view Bubble Girl as possibly being Katarina as a child. I've personally thought that Katarina was possibly married off as a young teen and had children at an early age - children who might have been taken from her for some reason.  I base that weird speculative idea on Season 1's Cyprus Agency (babies taken from victimized mothers) and the two episodes featuring teen brides (The Kenyon Family and Anna-Gracia Duerte). We know from Episode 6.19 that Dom didn't have a problem with Katarina being a honeypot spy. What's to say he didn't allow some pedophile U.S. government official to take Kat as a 13 or 14 year old, with the purpose of her spying on him. Maybe Anna McMahon reminds us so much of Katarina because she is her biological child.  I doubt it, but wouldn't that be a shocker in the finale?

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

Eastcoast, Fake DNA tests have been on my mind, too. That's why I was asking if the bones being the original RR was part of the show's canon. If the original RR was in the bag and both Jennifer's and Liz's father, that shoots down several theories.

Thank you, Tuxie! I will make it a point this summer to download and listen to the podcasts I've missed. It's been a very busy winter. You might be right about KR being a child bride and such.

The idea that Anna McMahon might be KR's child crossed my mind, as well, plus Red's comment about there being "too many redheads." Or maybe that's another Red herring.

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

What other fake DNA tests have their been other than the one Katarina faked showing Kirk/Rostov as Liz's dad?  The DNA test on RR's shirt showed Liz was his daughter, although people have always questioned Cooper's use of the 30-year-old shirt and whether the blood on it was actually RR's.  It hasn't been proven fake, but a lot of people think it is.

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

Hello Everyone and hope all is well - RL keeps me from posting much these days, although I do still read all your great posts. Guess I'm more of a lurker these days.

It feels like we got a bunch of puzzle pieces but they aren't all from the same puzzle. We have to figure out which pieces fit with each theory. My head is spinning. Anyway here are my thoughts:

Katarina says to Ilya "Take care of her if they get me." Maybe that's when Red stepped into Liz's life in the Pilot. Katarina was taken, Red doesn't know who specifically took her, and the Blacklist is a list of potentials blocking Red from finding her, more or less. Maybe. Sigh... I don't know...

Katarina communicated with Ilya via crossword puzzle. Red worked on a crossword in the Pilot. Are there other times he did crosswords in the series? Maybe he was looking for messages from Katarina.

Ilya met Katarina in TWIN Pines motel.

Ilya means "my God is Yahu" which is fitting since Ilya is the Savior of Katarina and her family.  But it also made me think of "Deus ex machina" or "God from the machine." This was kind of a cheap trick in Greek plays when a God would just magically show up at the end of the play and make everything all better. That's what Ilya did and it almost seems too good to be true.

But the God from the machine also makes me wonder if Dom actually invented Ilya to tell Liz a story that made everything all better for her and Red. Or at least Dom thought he made everything all better. Oops.

Last but not least did anyone notice if young Dom had Brill cream in his Moscow apartment? Never hurts to ask...

Ok that made me think of one more thing... Red's flat. Could it have been Katarina's mom's flat? I know folks have suggested it was originally Dom's which makes tons of sense. But Dom's Moscow apartment and his current home have paintings and artwork but no family photos. Katarina's mom's second husband's house (sorry I don't know all the names and aliases yet) had several family photos, like Red's flat. Anyway, I don't know if the original owner of Red's flat really matters, but just in case...

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

Hi Colleen,
You are right. These new puzzle pieces don't match up with a lot of our other pieces!

The crossword does take us back to that crossword puzzle in the pilot. Crosswords were a typical method of spy communication, according to the Spy Museum. I don't recall seeing Red working any other crosswords. And I didn't see any Brill Cream in Dom's Moscow apartment, but he seems like the kind of guy who might have used it. LOL

Thank you  for bringing up "Deus Ex Machina."  It can be a "plot device whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem in a story is suddenly and abruptly resolved by an unexpected and seemingly unlikely occurrence, typically so much as to seem contrived."  That seems exactly what Dom did with his Ilya story.

The flat could have been Kat's mother's flat. After all, that lamp was there.

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

Here's a fun twist, but it assumes that "Koslov" is a variant of "Kozlov" and I don't know if that's true.

Kozlov means "goat" and it can mean either a lecherous man or a scapegoat:

lecherous man.
synonyms:    lecher, lecherous man, lascivious man, libertine, womanizer, seducer, adulterer, pervert, debauchee, rake, roué, profligate, wanton, loose-liver, sensualist, sybarite, voluptuary, Don Juan, Casanova, Lothario, Romeo; informallech, dirty old man, DOM, wolf, ladykiller; datedrip; formalfornicator
"Sally, just you be careful of that old goat."
scapegoat.

PS: I didn't capitalize DOM in the above list of synonyms.

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

Colleen - I knew Koslov translated to goat, and I thought about the scapegoat meaning, but I didn't know about the lecherous man meaning.  That's so funny that dirty old man is abbreviated DOM.  Did you get this meaning from the Urban Dictionary?

Hi Tuxie! The definition and synonyms were the first thing that came up on Google, just listed as Dictionary. I wondered what DOM stood for - thanks for spelling it out. Dirty old man - that's a hoot!

This is fun! You all have some interesting angles on all the new (and old) stuff.

Not related to The Blacklist in any way but my favorite goat synonyms are loose-liver and formal fornicator.

That's not a sentence often spoken. Must figure out how to work it into a conversation with coworkers...

I saw the goat part too, but I agree with BBB above.  Loose liver?  Go figure?  Very funny!

I wanted to know what you all thought of Ilya saying, "the woman who invented him" to KR when they were talking?

I thought it was a reference to her framing RR and turning him into a traitor.

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

Hopefully I can get to Rassvet tonight.

I do have to say I loved them using Never Tear Us Apart. I loved INXS and I was so bummed when Michael Hutchence committed suicide. I got to see them in concert 3 or 4 times and Never Tear Us Apart was always a showstopper. They were a great band live.

And KR, too, only on a respirator or confined to a bed, due to RR?

Re: Episode 6.18 - The Brockton College Killer and Episode 6.19 Rassvet

Tuxie, it was to me too.  When they were talking about him and showing the fire, I actually had a wave of sadness hit me.  Here was a man who did not even know who he was.  She had made this alternate life about him and he didn't even know it.  Talk about being set up.
