Tuxie400 - yes that makes sense as Red didn't really have a "story" this week and that was a very abbreviated one! Although I do like the use of "marlin" and The Old Man and the Sea does have parallels to Moby Dick/Ahab in a way…..

Minor question - did Susan Blomaert get an acting credit at top of show?

Red missed the obvious sentiment to "Kilgore Trout" - a Vonnegut character!

Snapper LOL! Really did laugh out loud!
If nothing else comes from this episode, at least it inspires funny fish puns...or rather finny fish puns.
(covers ears to block out loud groans from those who read previous sentence)
Clearly it's my bedtime - thanks to everyone for such great comments - always make me think and smile - good night

Well, Good but I expected more with all the hype. This was very mellow for TBL. I agree I think the best parts for me were the beginning of Liz with the camera and Aram talking about his love life to Pannabaker! lol
This really was a fish show. Lipet's seafood, marlin trout.... some of the stuff Red says.
Not enough Red tonight but I did enjoy the dialog between Samar and Aram, and Samar with her old boyfriend.
My take of Tom talking about knowing who his dad is that it is opening a door to him going back to Hargrave and taking her up on the job so he can get to know what all happened to him.

All in all quite good. The story moved right along. Not quite as crazy as we have been seeing. At first I was thinking this was a Red Lite episode, but he's really on there quite a bit, just not interacting with the rest of the characters as much, except for Harold. But he still had that one thing to finish with Liz, a full pardon and reinstatement. He'd told Diaz that was what he wanted. Of course back then he thought it was a posthumous pardon. But he got it. Mission accomplished. I thought he looked a little sad at the end, though. Maybe he was thinking about what the true cost had been to get to where they are now. And, is Liz in more or less danger now that she will be working as a full FBI agent again?
But mainly, it looks like we are getting back to the Blacklisters. Tonight was terrorists and spies and it looks like next week is a good old-fashioned psychopath. They've always written those well, so I look forward to seeing what they do with it.
I liked the bit with yet another one of Red's Army. She was funny, yet, of course, very good at what she does.
I was sure Red was going to end up with that drone. But nice to see Ressler being allowed to finish up a case himself.
Aram and Samar? Obviously she's grown quite fond of him, but is she too late? Only time will tell and I don't think Samar will give up easily.

Ressler tossed a guy into oncoming traffic I guess that's on way to stop the bad guy.
I didn't get a feeling that there was anything "deeper" in this episode. Everything felt plain, with the exception of Samar/Aram duo and that story line.
It's always nice seeing Liz and Tom being happy together and Uncle Baz on watchout duty. And I'm glad that Liz starts back at work full time next episode, even Tom seemed genuinely happy for her.

I'm always amused at how much disdain the show-runners show institutions like FBI, CIA, Post Office, Mossad, etc.
Make them out to be gullible fools who fall for every trap known to man, no matter how many times its been repeated.
Even Red gets drawn into this cesspool of incompetence but at least he's got an alphabet full of secondary plans!

Thinking about this today, I guess I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, it felt like any other procedural out there, no crazy blacklister, but it was a solid episode that did move along easily and did have some surprises and nice moments. And, it did set up more screen time for Samar and Ressler; and cleared the way for the rest of the season. I think I would have been happier if Red got something out of the whole thing - and yes, if there was a twist with Red ending up with the drone, that would have been great. Then again he was preoccupied with getting the pardon for Liz. As we have seen before, he has let opportunities and more go by the wayside when it comes to giving his full attention to caring for Liz. He seemed not in the least bit interested in what was happening.... Overall though, I'm always happy with TBL, still one of the best shows out there….
As usual I need to watch it again. Now outside to deal with the first "real" snowfall we have had this season…and more on the way tomorrow! Luckily it is a weekend!

Colleen - You are right on those subtle "fish out of water" scenes. The Liz video certainly documented that, and so did the very entertaining scene with Red's source - the mom spy. The scene where Cooper chews Red out for letting Kirk go and for his transgressions against Liz would also qualify. I don't think anyone EVER chews Red out. But he took it well. "Good talk, Harold." LOL
Honey West - I think it's very likely Red ended up with drone. It's just the kind of thing he likes to barter with. I am looking forward to a creepy psychopathic Blacklister next week.
lara1 - I do get your connection with marlin - The Old Man and the Sea - and Moby Dick. I also think this episode was an opportunity to showcase action man Ressler and spy Samar. By the way, Samar's old life with Mossad was really the spy life, and she has been a fish out of water with the Task Force.
But that episode coming in two weeks, the Harem - how is it possible for Liz to go undercover successfully ever again? Her face was flashed all over the news with the recent pardon and for months when she was a suspected terrorist.
Lipet's Seafood Co. will probably be one of the few BL eps ever that I won't rewatch.

Well, we know one thing. The writers need to get moving with The War that is coming. I feel that the whole show has been a preparation for this War, either preventing it or fighting it. Red has gotten Liz a full presidential pardon after the giant sidetrack of the Tom Connolly business. I'm really hoping that the new direction of the show is getting back to the pre-assassination stuff. I'm not saying that the past season and a half has been terrible or anything, but after watching seasons 1 and half of 2 again, it made me realize that they have a lot of un-mined riches to go back to.
But last night they did two things that needed to be done, the Liz pardon and starting to figure out what to do with Samar's character.

Honey West - I'm wondering if the drone, or what was inside the drone was needed for Red's War.

The drone was simply a much-needed distraction - prolly provided by Nick's Pizza - who's now firmly entrenched in the spy game - after getting so much social media love earlier this season! lol
Anyways, peace is something that comes in small doses on this show - usually at the beginning or near the end - when the actors and their characters can redeem their social value credits and embrace each other - BEFORE THE NEXT LOOMING THREAT - THE NEXT YUUUGGE EVENT!

I just love Jodi Walker's recaps. And I totally agree with what she says here.

I agree with Honey West: I'm really hoping that the new direction of the show is getting back to the pre-assassination stuff.
Even though this was a ho-hum episode, I enjoyed that it was back to procedural format and Liz is back to being a bad-azz agent :-) !!!

Tatiana and HoneyWest - i see i have been "promoted" to an associate of Red! Love it!,

HoneyWest and Tatiana - i read the article and agree. Maybe they are truly changing direction of the show and getting back to Red, the blacklisters and why liz is so important to his plans. We really havent had any of that lately
I re-watched the episode last night There are a couple of things i didnt get, maybe they will be revealed in a future episode.
1. Why did Red go to Harold, and not liz, with this "Blacklister"?
2. Why did Red bring this to the task force in the first place? I could see no agenda on his part, other than perhaps his dislike of those kind of opertives?
3. Why didnt he stay involved - too busy with more important matters, like obtaining Liz's pardon? Or did he back off when he realized it was a mossad operation?
4. Ressler recaptured the drone and what they were after. What happened to it? I dont think it went back to Mossad, as it was US technology and i think ressler made that clear earlier on. Does anyone think it made its way back to Laurel and maybe via her to Red? Again, maybe we will find out in a future episode.

I was also wondering how she is going to pull anything off undercover after having her face plastered everywhere All Over the 'World' as a blonde and a brunette. Seams more like a job for Samar.
I also think Red will end up with the drone. Someone mentioned him having drones in the book that came out, so I thought how interesting that there is a drone in this episode.

I thought it was odd to bring it up to Harold too, except I think he thought it was a good time since he was chewing him out. It took them off the topic and redirected the conversation.
I think the drone might have went to Red. I think that is why he brought them this case. He wanted that for the upcoming war he talked about.

lara1 - I guess the old "I speak only to Elizabeth Keen" is no longer in play. Before the break, Red gave the info once to the task force himself and once to Samar. Perhaps he just wanted to give Liz more time at home with Agnes. I think it worked from a writing standpoint. But I think any episode that doesn't have any scenes with Red and Liz together is lacking.
