Katarina and Tom Parallels

It has been mentioned more than once that we have seen a lot of parallels between the relationships of KR/Red and Liz/Tom.  It seams to be one of the reasons that Red did not care for Tom.

Red did seam to be a slight bit more tolerant of him toward the end as he admitted he knew Tom seamed to have her best interest in mind for the things he did.

During my re-watch it seamed like he became different towards him not only because of Agnes but after going to  Cape May.  He was still angry with him, but it seamed like he believed that Tom really loved her more than he did before.  I was thinking that hearing KR say that she really loved RR in Cape May might have contributed to this.

So, all this time we have wondered if KR could still be alive as I would love to believe but I am thinking she is not.
Just reflecting over the fact we keep seeing her as a hallucination.  Usually in other tv shows this means someone is dead. Not saying that is what this means, just saying it seams to be the way it goes a lot of times.

That brings me to the next thing.  Maybe she died somehow the way Tom did?
Tom died not giving up Red, buying a few more minutes for Liz which allowed Red and Dembe to get there.

Everything else seamed to be very similar in the relationships so I just wondered if there was some way that they may have had a death that was.

I want to have some other thoughts on this from you guys.

Re: Katarina and Tom Parallels

Interesting discussion idea, Eastcoast. I was wondering if the Tom/Red parallel might also extend to their search for identity/Family/pasts. As I was wondering in another thread, suppose Red really not only doesn’t know what happened to his family, perhaps he doesn’t even know who he really is? If he’s had memory work done along with his admitted plastic surgery, that could be a possibility. Maybe he was told that the plastic surgery was for his burns, but it was used to make him into Raymond Reddington. So many things would depend on when he took on the identity of RR. Did Rostov know him as the replaced RR or did he also know the real RR. Red's memories of their past seemed so complete, down to remembering how Katarina was at that time, that he must have experienced those things, or else was so programmed with the memories as to believe them himself, if he wasn’t actually there. I wondered before if RR was not a person so much as a created identity, like the Man Who Never Was. But as a Cold War spy sort of creation, maybe to decoy the enemy away from something else that was happening.

I don’t know. Something to think about as we wait for January.

“I am exactly who I am. And I can assure you, I’m a far more interesting Raymond Reddington than Raymond Reddington ever was."

Re: Katarina and Tom Parallels

I think Red's more tolerant attitude toward Tom was because of Agnes and the fact Liz was truly committed to him. I don't think it had anything do with Cape May.

I don't think Katarina is dead because of what Dom told Liz and because I believe Red is Katarina.
