Season 5 Big Reveal promised! interview w/Bokenkamp

New interview:  http://ew.com/tv/2018/03/29/spoiler-room-station-19-legends-of-tomorrow-blindspot/

Red is not completely willing to go after Ian Garvey because of the bones. Can you tease how this will ultimately affect his relationship with Liz on The Blacklist? — Simon
Well, she’s certainly not going to be happy about it. In fact, she’ll likely go around Red in service of getting justice for Tom’s death, which will lead to some major reveals. “The truth behind that bag of bones — a truth which we will reveal this season — represents a massive turn in our series and pushes us forward in a really compelling way,” EP Jon Bokenkamp says. “Remember, Tom Keen died trying to unravel this mystery. Rest assured, Liz has no intention of taking her foot off the gas and getting the answer that she, and the audience, both deserve.”

"Liz has no intention of taking her foot off the gas and getting the answer that she, and the audience, both deserve."

I take this to mean a promise to provide the audience with some significant canon.
We will find out who's bones those are. I suspect we will find out a huge truth about Red.
I also wonder if they'd be willing to sacrifice the role of Red? Or as some have speculated, that Red plans to fake his death or commit a crime using the doppelganger master and the top-of-the-line arsonist to do so.

Lots to speculate about if we care.

Re: Season 5 Big Reveal promised! interview w/Bokenkamp

Bokenkamp and Eisendrath both said last November we'd know who the bones were by the end of the season. What truth will be learned about Red is anybody's guess. I'm not going to do anymore speculating - willing to wait for whatever breadcrumbs we're given.

Can I have my breadcrumbs as part of a nice turkey dinner with all the trimmings?

Okay, not ALL of the trimmings otherwise they’d have to end the show...

Well I for one have speculation fatigue on this particular subject!  Because I think all of the possible options are out there, but we still lack enough information, some of it significant, to really know.  And each of the options has issues with it.  So, its either one of the options, or someone we know nothing about, but will be told.  So yes, I'm keeping the duffle bag of bones on the back burner......

Well, anyone else who wants to play, I'm still game :-)  Plus, if you hear any cool theories, I'd love to hear them.

Yay!

Actually, that does make me think of something lol!  Bokenkamp said the show wasn't about Red's redemption (at least that's how I remember it). He's called it a chosen one story; a love story (or was that Megan Boone?); and a story about identity.
Were there others?

Re: Season 5 Big Reveal promised! interview w/Bokenkamp

I've heard it referred to as a 'chosen one' story, a 'parent-child' story, a 'love story', and as a 'battle for liz's soul'.  I believe all were from the Jons (I can't separate which said which one).

Re: Season 5 Big Reveal promised! interview w/Bokenkamp

Megan Boone was the one who first called it a love story during Season 2. Later she amended it to say family love story.

I found this 2014 Comic Con interview with Spader today. It's always stuck in my mind:

"The journey has to be good, because it's terrible at the top of Everest. Destinations aren't enough. It's like you get up there. and it's worse than it was all the way up. The ultimate answers should inform that looking backwards."

That's why I've always believed the ending to this thing won't be pretty, and it won't be happy. When Spader does say something about the show, it always turns out to be true. I trust in Spader.

Re: Season 5 Big Reveal promised! interview w/Bokenkamp

I just remembered where I read the love story one.  It was after Tom died and the Jons were talking a lot about the show.  They said that when they were first pitching it to Bob Greenblat(?) at NBC and talked about Tom and Liz's love life and what they had planned for it, he pointed to Liz and Red and said the show was ultimately their love story.  So I think that may be the origins of the love story one (where Megan may have gotten the information).

Re: Season 5 Big Reveal promised! interview w/Bokenkamp

I found the link to that interview I was thinking of: http://ew.com/tv/2017/11/15/blacklist-tom-keen-dead-time-jump-spoilers/

Here was the actual quote: JOHN EISENDRATH: I remember we were at an early meeting with NBC, and we were pitching stories and the subject of Liz’s love life came up regarding Tom, and I remember Bob Greenblatt pointed to a poster that was in the room and the poster was of Red and Liz. He was like, “You know, that is the love story of the series.” I think he’s right. Ultimately, the love story is between Red and Liz, and Tom’s death will have the largest effect on that relationship pretty much since Red turned himself in.

Brittany - I do remember reading Eisendrath's comment about what Greenblatt said. That may be where Megan got the idea.

"Ultimately, the love story is between Red and Liz, and Tom’s death will have the largest effect on that relationship pretty much since Red turned himself in."

So now that Tom is dead, Liz is going to start building her own team and ultimately it will be the fight to the death, literal or otherwise, between her and Red? And somehow Liz's soul will be at stake. Will she go to the dark side and stay there?

Yeah, I keep thinking it's going to be a terrible ending, certainly no cliches or canned story line here. James Spader said, don't get too comfortable, and I'm sure that's true. And I'm pretty sure it's Red is not going to be so appealing in the end, he will be like the blind fish or the farmer who rages. But I don't think you can put a cap on it at this point. Maybe after the suitcase reveal.

So, family story and perhaps chosen one?

Well Tatiana, I have already listed several people I thought could be in that bag of bones, but I was thinking yesterday of a new person. Although KR still seams like the most likely what about Mr. Kershaw?  He does have his name on his flat he had.  It is also a name that Tom would know.
