Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

I was trying to picture Red telling this to Naomi.  We think we saw a smack the last time!  Lol

Now that would be a great flashback!!

But who is to say he didn't get with Naomi after Liz was born?

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

I wasn't sure if the cabin was supposed to have been where he may have met with Katarina when they were together or if it was a family cabin they used to go to on weekends on whatever, filled with 'happy memories'. Or maybe it was somewhere Carla absolutely hated when they were married and being back there is even worse now than in the past.

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

The way she said, I cant believe you brought me Here!   The word here was just said is such disgust it never crossed my mind it could have been a place they went that had any good memories.

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

Eastcoast- in my mind, the disgust could have been "you brought me HERE to this place where we used to be happy and be a family, etc before it was revealed you were a cheater and then abandoned us'.

It could have been.  There were old family pics around.

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

I was rewatching part of this episode again this morning. Several elements reminded me of the Ruin episode:
The park ranger at the beginning looked a like Ranger Colin
The house in the woods where Liz was taken by Hollis was in a remote location
The German Shepherd used in the pursuit reminded me of Kate
The blue lights used outside the cabin in the night time pursuit of Fulton looked like the blue Ruin night

I never thought of the Ranger or that light until you mentioned it.

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

Well I finally got to re-watch the episode.  Here are some things I saw that I didn't pick up on first time around, most are in the room in the cabin where the Sandman took the children that he killed.  the room reminded me both of the attic at Tansi Farms, and, because of the sloping roof and beams, actually Masha's room in the Summer Palace.  But this closet had a monster in it.

When they first enter the room and the camera pans, there is a raggedy type doll with deep red hair (kind of like a larger version of the doll in the trunk in Dom's garage, that Red takes out);

In the cubby next to the girl's there was clothing with a heart pattern on it

There were dirty, soiled stuffed animals on the top of the cubby unit.  They reminded me of Liz's soiled rabbit, but I could not tell whether any of the stuffed animals were rabbits - there were a couple kind of smooshed together

There was what I think was a retro kind of toy - circa the same date as some of the Fisher Price toys in Dom's garage - a dog pull toy.  I think it was an earlier, retro version of the current dog pull toy.  But I couldn't get a good enough look at it.

Think someone else already mentioned the large, dark dog at the end when the FBI comes and there is the chase in the woods.  At the time, I did not think much of it, except now I think - it was unusual to take a dog wasn't it?  How many times have you seen the FBI surround a place, have they had a dog before?  Yet, here in the woods, in a cabin, with a child's room reminiscent of others we have seen in the series, with Liz chasing someone who is wearing a "Red" parka - the dog appears.

The blue light - when Liz catches up with the psychiatrist, her flashlight is emitting a bright BLUE light that shines on the psychiatrist.

Someone else asked me whether there was a visual distortion around Liz when she took the pillow in the cabin.  Yes, but its very slight, she kind of tilts her head very slightly and for something like a split second, there's a very slight blur to the screen.   You wouldn't ordinarily notice it.

When Liz took the pillow, it reminded me of Red with the pillow and Sam.

At the end, when Liz talks to the psychiatrist at the Post Office, she tucks her hair behind one of her ears, like KR wore her hair.  In fact, Liz looks very much like KR in this episode, IMO.  Its like she is morphing into KR in front of us.  LOL

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

lara, I was saying that earlier about her putting her hair behind her ears. I was thinking back and it seams like a lot of the times she is a bit 'off', her hair goes behind her ears. When I do my rewatch I am going to try to pay attention to that.  I think Tuxie also mentioned it really make her look different.

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

lara1 - I also noticed some of the times Liz was wearing the ski cap when investigating the murders her hair was tucked behind one ear. I know it was when she examined the purported Capricorn victim and called it a copycat. It might have been other times too. The tuck is not as obvious when she wears the cap.

Another thing I noticed about the Sandman cottage, and in particular the Sandman's children's room. It had a beamed ceiling just like Dom's place. I looked for a stuffed rabbit too, but didn't see one.

I didn't think it was unusual that the FBI would have a dog when looking for a missing FBI agent who's likely the captive of a killer, especially when they needed it for tracking. But the only other time I remember German shepherds tracking in the Blacklist is in Mako Tanida when he escapes from the prison at the very beginning.

I didn't think the dog was unusual either. Especially for night time.

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

Tuxie400 - the wood beams in the children's room reminded me of the attic at Tansi Farms - which I also thought was a creepy place.  And the slope of the roof reminded me of Masha's room at the Summer Palace - that room was kind of built into the attic, some of the windows were small-ish dormer type windows and the ceiling sloped on one side, as I recall.

I agree that in principle its not far fetched to have a dog tracking the scent.  I'm only commenting about the circumstances, that we didn't see or hear it til Liz was out in the woods chasing the doctor, and the general absence of it in other episodes.  It also had a red kind of laser light emitting from its collar.

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

I noticed a gruesome parallel between the copycat Capricorn victim and the dead body of Preacher Kenyon when I rewatched The Kenyon Family yesterday. The heads of both victims were looking upward. Tree branches were stuffed in Kenyon's mouth at the same angle as the sword in The Capricorn Killer. Both had their eyes mutilated, Kenyon by smaller branches stuffed in his eye and the Capricorn copycat victim with his eyes sewn shut. Kenyon was impaled by his cane, which had a brass ball on top. The sword in the copycat Cap victim also had a brass ball on the handle.

The lost boys of Kenyon were living in a cabin in the woods.

Thank you Tuxie400.  When I watched it last night, I knew I'd seen that imagery before but I could not remember where.

Yes, I thought that too.  And, separately, the wood beams reminded me of the Tansi Farms barn attic (#232). I point that out because Masha's room at Summer Palace seemed to have been built into an attic space as well  -because of the structure of the windows - maybe that was just an impression I got.  There was also something about the pattern of the colored windows, but I can't recall whether/where I'd seen that before.

I thought of that as soon as I saw it and I am just so grossed out by that stuff I tried to forget it. I actually had to keep turning my head.  When I re-watch that episode I fast forward a bit.

I noticed that too, but I think it was somewhere else too but cant think where?  I keep thinking of the ceiling from the flashback Liz had and how the ceiling was fake and had that gap and it looked like a beam.  Maybe I am thinking of that.

Same, re: gruesome parallel. I just shut my eyes. It's so repugnant. I never could look at the Kenyon Family one.

Re: Episode 5.16 - The Capricorn Killer - Discussion Page

Slope of roof: I don't have time to look but didn't some of the scenes from Cape May have rooms with sloping ceilings?
What about Dom's house? for thick ceiling beams? I'll have to check later. For some reason I thought there was a room like that at Dom's.
