Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Thinking about doubles and BBB's comment that Garvey is on the alternate task force, I remembered when we first saw Garvey that lara1 thought he looked similar to Red. Then I was struck in the last episode with how much Singleton looks like Dembe. I never noticed he was so tall until Liz brought him to the Post Office. Was this sort of casting done intentionally to reinforce the doubles idea?

And Liz is a virtual doopleganger for Mandy Moore from "This is Us" - can't believe how similar those two are - although Moore is 3 or 4 inches taller

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

This week's episode was quite the book club. Along with the titles Red and Sinclair mention, I thought the sub-theme of the street people was more connection from Dickens' Oliver Twist.  I've always thought Tom's backstory sounded like the Artful Dodger. Then we got a character named Fagen in the The Cook. Now it's revealed that Red uses a network of street people as informants. Now I'm thinking a gold locket is the key piece in the book that leads to the reveal of orphan Oliver's true family ties. Will Katarina's locket lead Liz to a similar reveal?

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Tuxie - agreed, there is an artful dodger in here ;-)
Frankly, I find so many literary figures and 'stories' in here that's what lead me to the 'Silverlock' suggestion: a story of literary characters who all meet each other and interact.

I find it interesting that you bring up the locket. Remember that when Red reads the locket he is motivated to go to Dom's to 'find a way forward'. Now, that could support the Redarina theory, but it could also just point to the time when everything changed: 1989/1990. So he is going back to that time to re-think what to do.

Do we know where the locket is now? I think we just know it's in Red's possession and presumably, still there.

Tatiana - As far as we know, Red still has Katarina's locket.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

“Some people are truly alone in this world,” Harold Cooper tells Raymond Reddington in the backseat office.  Red seems to deeply identify with this, and he joins the homeless Delores by Khalil Shula's graveside so she will not be alone. This reminds me of what Red told Liz about Dembe in The Kilgannon Corp.: “Dembe stayed … because he saw the man I truly was. No friends who could be trusted, no faith that loyalty or love could ever truly exist.”  So Reddington must have felt very alone at one time.

I don’t think I’ve ever loved Red more than when he pats Delores’ hand, after she’s reached out to connect with him. I did a gifset on this on my tumblr page.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Tuxie - the Delores/Red interaction was profoundly moving. The actress' name is Marcia Ledonis. I thought her performance was phenomenal .... and her strength stood up to Spader's as equals. That moment when she's at the dining room table, and says he's an honest man, she gestures with a finger with an unexpected timing. There was nothing 'caricature' like about it and there are all sorts of stories I can think of behind her personality. That takes a lot to be able to carry that much personality with just a few lines. And of course, her final gesture, to wrap her hand around Red's arm.

The gif you posted on your tumblr is perfect. The difference in their faces, Cooper and Reddington. Cooper is clearly commenting on something he sees from the outside; Red is seeing, what he feels on the inside, and then goes and joins another soul.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

I also saw in Red's expression, a face bereft with every loss and bereft from the emptiness his life has given him; I don't think we are supposed to know if he grieves for others or grieves for himself.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Tatiana - I agree Red looks bereft there. I also wondered if that burial didn't remind him in some way of the suitcast bones.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

There's something about those bones though. Remember, doesn't he sit on the actual suitcase that contains the bones? There was something else Red did that showed irreverence for the bones/suitcase.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Tatiana - I've never had a problem with Red sitting on the suitcase. It didn't rule out anybody for me. Red was in the company of the Artful Dodger, and possession trumps reverance.

I had no problem with him sitting on it either.  I felt like he was giving the message to anyone looking they need not try to grab it!

Tuxie - Marcia Ledonis outshone some very phenomenal actors in this episode. The irony of her (and Red's) performance was a shared mourning for a character who hardly appeared on-screen. When you can pull that off - its SIMPLY AMAZING - AND THEY DID IT . . . .
The side benefit (f there is one) for Red is that he now has a woman who would do almost anything for him - and a woman who certainly could fit in areas that others couldn't. A brilliant homeless woman at Red's beck and call - who could want anything more?

BBB - Great insights about Marcia Ledonis! She certainly was on par with the two advertised guest stars.

I loved her character.  I would love to see her again.  She really brought something extra to the character.

Side note: did anyone else notice Red’s coat buttons seemed a little strained at the funeral scene?  It looked uncomfortable.

Someone mentioned that perhaps he was expecting.... yes, it's a tad strained

LOL  Thank God I wasn't eating anything when I read that. I think somebody was taking the Redarina theory a bit too far. Spader has gained weight though, and he has developed a double chin this season.  A lot of people gain weight when they stop smoking.

I gain weight breathing. I laugh out loud when people say, well my weight varies, 161-162. Yeah. I'm like, yeah, my weight varies 5-10 lbs each day.... I gained 20 pounds when I quit smoking. Spader was pretty much a chain smoker from what I've read, so I'll take an extra 10-30. He's still one of the best actors out there :-)

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Yes, I know he has put on weight when he quit smoking.  Wardrobe apparently hasn’t caught up.  I felt myself holding my breath watching him stuffed into that coat.

And expecting....😂😂😂 I’m dead.
