LOL I thought that was a Christmas ornament! And well - Easter bunnies do bring Easter epgs. don't they! LOL
Well spotted!

HoneyWest - I've been wondering about the witness protection thing too. I think its no accident that Garvey is a US Marshall, vs a member of another law enforcement agency. Something to do with fire night. And maybe Jennifer. We don't actually know why Naomi and Jennifer were put in witness protection - from whom were they being protected? That was never made clear. I don't think it was Red.

lara1 - The Easter egg does have a tulip pattern on it. I thought it might be a Russian Easter egg, but I couldn't find one with a similar pattern.

Tuxie400 - if you google, russian christmas ornaments, you'll see several photos of christmas ornaments that are decorated or painted, and that are shaped like eggs. so maybe it is one after all.
I only did that because when I lived in Europe, we bought several decorations for the tree that were like that, and suspended from the top and hung from actual ribbon.
so they are both - eggs and ornaments. Reminds me of Faberge eggs. I wonder what significance the egg shape has in Russia.....

ooohhh - then google russian christmas eggs and look at the images tab - you'll find lots - more that are painted vs highly decorated. some with flowers. but none quite like the one in your photo.
well any way you look at it, I agree, that was very clever .....

Love those eggs, and that one indeed looks like one! Faberge eggs, extraordinarily ornate, jewel encrusted, ... mostly made for the Russian Tsars, the Romanovs. They gave these eggs as Easter gifts to the women in their families. They are beautiful. In an odd way, the little glass ornaments Red gave... his girlfriend (name?) christine? remind me of them.

Switching gears for a moment.....speaking of doubles and doppelgängers - remember Season 2 where Liz hired a "double" to impersonate her and keep Red's spy at bay so he wouldn't follow her to the ship where she kept Tom.
that just popped into my head. I think it was one of the (many) things that got me thinking about the "2 Elizabehts" idea. Interesting that the double idea has come back again. Because I think it was all over Season 2 as well.

lara1 - What Liz did in Season 2 with the double was exactly what the spy technique of idenitiy transfer is all about. The Blacklist first used the idea of identity transfer with the Alchemist and those doubles. The idea was repeated in the Season 1 finale with with Berlin's stand-in, the other Milos. Identity Transfer was a major theme idea throughout Season 2: Carla Reddington's identity was transferred through Witsec to Naomi Hyland. One twin sister's identity was transferred to the other twin after she killed her. The Deer hunter's identity was transferred to his wife after she killed him. Vanessa Cruz made herself into the double of her lesbian girlfriend.
I've really only seriously considered Red as being the double for the real Raymond Reddington. I always had a hard time with the idea of two Elizabeths or two Kaplans.

Tuxie400 #148 - yes, exactly. interesting that it was BERLIN who had a doppleganger....and we'e had Berlin references this season.
Well if there are two Reddingtons (my latest twist on this theory being that the "real" RR is still alive somewhere and Red is his double for a reason, LOL),,,,maybe there are two Elizabeths, mirror images.
Well even I have a headache thinking of that one......

I wanted to weigh in with how much I loved this week's episode. I enjoyed every single scene, and I can't say that very often. Like Red, I have a great fondness for stories about doppelgangers, so this story truly captivated me. John Noble as Raleigh Sinclair III proved to be both sinister and fascinating. I think he may be my favorite Blackister this season. How perfect to cast the quirky Noble in an episode about doubles, since he so brilliantly played multiple Walter Bishops in Fringe's alternate worlds! Wasn't it refreshing to have a character who had never heard of Raymond Reddington, and then even forgot his name? I'm looking forward to seeing how Red plans to use Sinclair in the future. Brittany had some terrific ideas in that regard, and any of those would be entertaining.
Red's scenes with the homeless Delores tugged at the heartstrings. I don't know which one I liked better: dinner with Red and Dembe or the entwined arms at the graveside.
Seeing Red flummoxed by Liz's request that he attend therapy with her was comical, and I'm still chuckling about him telling her that they didn't need therapy. They so need a ton of it.
Liz's reveal that at ballet performances, her graduation, and her wedding she sensed Red's presence was surprising. Why are we just hearing that in Season 5? "I always knew someone was watching over me, protecting me, guiding me." I think when she identified herself as a daughter in her profile, it was a major advance. I think It signals a deepening connection that will sustain her through whatever Red's big secret is
I’m glad it turned out Detective Singleton is not a dirty cop. I’m usually a good judge of character, so my radar wasn’t off on him. He appears to working through official channels in some sort of joint task force on drugs with U.S. Marshal Garvey.
There were so many excellent quotes this week. I'm going to put them on another post.

I think this episode had a bushel of outstanding quotes, and they were spoken by a variety of characters.
Red: "People think memory works like a video recorder: the mind records events and then on cue plays back an exact replica. In truth, memories are reconstructed more like putting together an ever-changing jigsaw puzzle than replaying a video."
Raleigh Sinclair III - Ritual is everything. Respect it, and in time it will become second nature.
Ian Garvey - Reddington is the biggest fish in domestic law enforcement. and if Detective Singleton is right, we've got him on the hook.
Red to Liz: Therapy can be transformational for people who need it. We don't.
Red - Remind me, was the apple doesn't fall far from the tree a psychological theory first pioneered by Piaget or Lucy and Peanuts?
Dr. Fulton about Liz: Some kids run from their father's sins. She embraces them.
Red about Liz: She's everything that I am not.
Dr. Fulton to Liz: Closure requires a reckoning - not just about Tom or what happened, but why it happened - what role - if any - you or Reddington may have played in it.
Liz about Red: Some of what he's done is unimaginably bad. But some of what he's done for me is unimaginably good.
Liz: I'm a widow, a mom, a cop, and one more thing - a daughter.

Tuxie, that is a good list you put together. I think you got them all!

I missed the easter egg even on my re-watch! lol But I plan to watch again because it was a great episode.
I think they were trying to throw us a few bones.
We had the comment on the ballet, and as far as we know the Detective is not a bad cop.
It would be interesting to see Red fake his death but that does mean someone would be killed unless they found a dead person to match him.
Another thought was maybe he could frame Garvey for something.
Or they show Red being arrested again or using a double to show him elsewhere while he kills Garvey.
The possibilities are almost endless on this show!!!
Edit to add, let us not forget Mr. Fire-man and he could fit into that.

Wasn't the injured man in 'Ruin' supposed to be in WITSEC?

I should probably put this post somewhere else, but not sure where.
You know how TBL keeps saying there's going to be a reckoning? Well, being the word fiend I am, I looked up the word. Here's Merriam Webster:: the act or an instance of reckoning: such as
a : account, bill
b : computation
c : calculation of a ship's position
Well now i'nt that interesting?

Samar jumping the staircase = AWESOME
Her running style = NOT SO MUCH
TBL should use a dark-haired 5'9", well-built track & field athlete to stand-in for 'running Samar'. Her actual running style = more like Danny DeVito meets Popeye the Sailor Man . . . .

I brought several little wooden eggs home from St Petersburg. They go on the Christmas tree every year. One has a little silhouette of St Petersburg skyline painted on it. They had lots of them in the souvenir shops.

Eastcoast - Those are some more good possibilities for how Red could use Sinclair!

Tatiana - Yes, the guy Liz saved in Ruin was in Witsec.
Red gave Josephine the little glass figurines.
