Yep!

Yes, haha.  But there is something about Red's glasses that have always seemed a bit retro to me.  Not sure if its the color of the tinted lenses, or the double bar across the top frame or both , LOL.

ADDED:  I caught an old epsiode of "Kojak" the TV series the other week.  He wears v similar glasses and wore a hat too, I think it was a fedora, or similar.  LOL.

and for no particular reason, Kaplan's walkman popped into my head today.  Remember the episode where her cleaning crew was killed?  Season 3 I think.  Kate was plugged into her walkman listening to music on cassette, when she was ambushed.  Another blast from the late seventies/early eighties.  LOL

They are adding up, IMO.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

All the payphones in The Blacklist are a throwback to the 70s and 80s too. They started being phased out in the 1990s, and by 2008 AT&T axed all its payphones, with Verizon following suit in 2011.

LOL!  talk about the obvious, overlooked by me.  haha.  Yes, I know that the pay phone Red uses before he goes on the lam after Anslo, had to be obtained and put in place on that street.  there are still payphones in NYC, but yes they are rare,  and they would not have necessarily been located where production wanted to film.  But, nonetheless, that's another throwback to the past.  Red could have used a disposable flip phone as he otherwise does.  A clue in plain sight?  Maybe,....maybe not

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

That's cool that you still have payphones in NYC. I've been looking around here for them. There are still phone stands at the gas stations and at some grocery stores, but they don't have phones in them!
I'll have to look in Amish country . . . the Amish can't have phones in their houses, so there might be more pay phones at the stores and such.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Iowawatcher- I have clients who live in an area with a high Amish concentration and it's pretty much the only area where I've seen pay phones in several years, though not as many as you'd think.  Apparently there are quite a few who now have cell phones.  I think it depends on how conservative the order is.

On a side note in relation to conspiracy theories within the Blacklist, I learned today that before being named  MKULTRA, the CIA's first name for it was Project Artichoke.   MK ULTRA sounds so much better.

I think we talked about the payphones before. Might have been on the other board?  I thought someone told me they had some at a airport when they went on vacation?

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

I saw a payphone yesterday.  Right outside my favorite Mexican restaurant...the one I've been going to for at least 15 years. And I'm JUST now seeing it....

YAY just one more day!

I'm surprised there haven't been more previews, snippets etc.   given a lot of people probably don't remember it returns this week - um, it does, doesn't it?  LOL

lara1 - Did you see the Sneak Peak? Aly has the link to it on her site. It's a snippet of Liz's session with the psychologist.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Yep . . . one more day! It's been a long break.

Brittany, that's true: the more conservative orders only allow phones in sheds at the back of the property and only for families who are doing business with "The English" (us).

The highly conservative Amish orders are dying out. A lot of their youngsters are leaving the Amish. Many become Mennonites, if they stay with a church. It takes a special person to live an 1850s lifestyle, which is the basis for the conservative orders. The Mennonites can drive, have phones. Their numbers are more stable.

Thanks, Tuxie400, I saw the sneak peeks.  Last time we were flooded with things daily - clips, little articles, quotes etc.  Been pretty quiet this time around.....

Tuxie, I saw both of them she had on there.  I am hoping tomorrow might have another one. lara1, I was thinking the same thing, hardly nothing this time around?

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

We used to get flooded with previews. Maybe they just didn't have many clips that wouldn't I've away too much. They've mentioned that before as a challenge. Does that mean this episode will be chock full of real storyline? I sure hope so!

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

OK, here's some that relates somewhat to all  imposter theories. I was searching for information on the identity transfer technique used in spying, when I ran into some real-life scientific experiments on identity transfer using facial implants. This experiment transplanted the faces of fresh cadavers on head models and two other cadavers. The 3006 abstract is from the U.S. National Public Library of Medicine:

The authors have assessed the facial "appearance" of recipient cadavers after mock facial transplantation, the "appearance" of donor facial flaps following transfer to artificial head models, and the "appearance" of donor flaps after replantation back to the same cadavers. Based on the results of different types of facial flap transplantation, the issue of "identity transfer" is discussed. Ten fresh human cadavers were dissected. In eight cadavers, the entire facial/scalp flap was harvested. Two cadavers served as recipients of the donor facial flaps. Two different types of artificial head models were used as the "recipients" for the harvested facial flaps. The facial appearance of the recipient cadavers after mock transplantation was a mixture of features of both the recipient and the donor. The appearance of the facial flaps mounted on the head models was close to the framework of the head models. When harvested facial flaps were transferred back to the original cadavers, the facial appearance was nearly the same as before transplant. Based on this study, the authors will be able to discuss the variation in post-transplant appearance with potential candidates for facial transplant. The issue of correlating facial appearance with "identity transfer" will be difficult to assess until the authors' first facial transplantation is performed.:

It was just an interesting little tidbit that made me think of BL, Game of Thrones and the movie Faceoff.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Tuxie, that's interesting! Last night I googled criminals who changed their appearance with cosmetic surgery and it didn't make a huge difference. But we do know that TBL uses sci-fi like science.

One question, did Ressler confirm finger prints when Red surrendered himself to the FBI? If we subscribe to the redarina theory, then she would have grafted the pads I'd the fingers.

I think the donor would need to be alive yet. Gruesome thought, what if Raymond wasn't dead but critically injured and they kept him alive long enough to take skin for a graft to Katarina. Now that would be morbid.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Tatiana - Yes, Ressler did confirm the fingerprints as Reddington's in the pilot. We've discussed that a lot over the years.  There are many articles online with detailed instructions on how to make fake fingerprints. But whether any of them would be good enough to fool the FBI is questionable. I probably wouldn't be able to fool the FBI. But Red, with his incredible resources, might.

Tuxie....sorry I may have missed the fingerprint discussion. Plus, my memory has gotten worse so I apologize if I repeat things...its frustrating:-( but I know I can rely on you to keep the facts straught.

I replied before without reading your whole message. Yes, that would be gruesome (a Katarina word). And awful and unforgivable.

The techniques I read about for making fingerprints didn't rely on skin grafts, but you need access to the real fingerprints to make them. I did some research, and most skin used for skin grafts comes from cadavers.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Oh, I didn't know that. I knew of criminals who erased their fingerprints with acid. ow. I keep thinking of the episode when Red cuts off the thumbs from the frozen cadaver and uses them to access the safe deposit box. Funny. In a gruesome way. ha!
