Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Tuxie- I think I would be angry with Red for that, more so than holding her hostage or killing her.  Liz, while still not a good thing, I can understand a little more because she was a child and it may have helped to shield her (to a degree) from growing up traumatized by what happened to her.  But to make a woman forget her child, or believe she's dead.  That's cold.  I'm keeping that one on the back burner while we wait for the big reveal this season.  It may be total bunk, but it's interesting to consider.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

I think it depends on the episode.  In the past episodes it was a crime drama, but as it goes on it is a bit more crime/drama/thriller.  Definitely starting to fall into psychological thriller with all the gruesome murders they have been showing.  (I can do without the gruesome by the way) lol

I definitely think that is a good possibility Brittany.  It would fit in as Tuxie said.

Cold is an understatement!   That would probably be unforgivable to Liz.  I think it is wrong for any parent to do anything of that nature!
I know we had said a while back that maybe she was in a nursing home somewhere like Josephine is.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Eastcoast- I definitely don't think it was okay for Red to do it, but from a parental standpoint I can see why he would want to do it, even though it was a terrible thing to do.  It makes me think of an episode of Boston Legal where a girl wants to forget her molestation by a rabbi and her father is pushing for her to take some experimental pill that is supposed to be designed to help forget trauma but her mother is against it.

I'm not sure if KR's memories have been modified if she would be in a care setting, though it could be possible if she suffered brain damage as a result.  But if she didn't, she could be out there living life as an accountant or something.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

"I know we had said a while back that maybe she was in a nursing home somewhere like Josephine is.  "

Wow, this really reminded me of something we discussed a few years ago at the time that Artax aired.  It is tied in with the sled imagery I've been seeing and other TBL symbols.

Back in Artax, someone made a comment about Red going through KR's things in Dom's garage.  It was either about the music that played in the scene or the glitter, maybe various sayings about glitter, maybe tying something into a book.  It was a brilliant comment, but I don't have time to try to dig it up.  (Maybe if the person who wrote it remembers, they could remind us what it was.)

that led to a connection with the book "Ethan From" (again I don't know exactly how the connection was made, or whether I made it - anyway) I then commented at the time about how that book traces some of the TBL themes.

Spoilers coming for those who haven't read the book or seen the film (Liam Neeson in title role).  So the story, in brief, takes place sometime in the 1800s is about how a married man with a sickly wife (From), falls in love with the woman (I think her name was Maddie or Mattie - another kind of TBL link) who has come to look after his wife.  Long story short, the woman is sent away by the wife (who may have suspected something), and From is taking Mattie to the train station.   Its winter, in the woods, with lots of snow.  They stop at a hill where they either used to go sledding or wished they could (I think the book and film may differ on which).  Point being, they decide to take one last trip down the hill on a red old fashioned SLED (not dissimilar to the flexible flyer we have been seeing).

The book and film differ I believe, in the book, its a suicide pact to purposely crash into a tree, in the film I believe it reads more like, lets take one last sled trip together.  In any event, they crash into a TREE.

The story both begins and ends 24 years later and tells the story via flashback.  In the crash, Mattie was paralyzed and is an invalid for the rest of her life.  From was injured as well, walks with difficulty, in pain and with a limp.

Anyway its a very sad story, but the mention of Josephine and our discussions of how it may be possible that Red has her somewhere made me think of this.  Whether its a parallel to KR, who knows.  But its an interesting link.

Again I can't remember exactly how we got from Red in Dom's garage to the glitter to Ethan From when discussing Artax.  But i remember that at the time, we uncovered a very cool link to it.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

lara1 - I was the one on BSG who found the quote "Never underestimate the power of glitter" came from a teen novel by Katie Klein. The plot was good, highly intelligent girl falls in love with a bad boy when they are assigned as partners to read the novel Ethan Frome. That;s how you got to Ethan Frome and its similarities to BL.

AHA!  thanks Tuxie400!   That was such a brilliant connection you made!   So funny how things come up that bring us back to previous discussions!  If I hadn't seen the sleds this season I don't think I'd made the connection back to From.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Liz told Red back in season 3 that keeping her mother from finding her would be unforgivable. So any way that might have happened would likely cause a major rift.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Speaking of glitter ....  I had to go to a few stores and one of them had a bunch of glitter of all things on a shelf when I went in that was on sale.  It is something you usually have to go look for in the craft section.  Not only that but I decided to go into an Antique store and I saw a Very Old Copy of Moby Dick in there.  And then, I went to the other side of the store and sticking out from under a table was a Suitcase like the one on the show!!  I actually took a picture of it I was so stunned!

eastcoast - wow those are some amazing coincidences!  funny how TBL follows us around sometimes in real life!  I am glad though that you did not find a skeleton in the suitcase!  LOL

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

I just had a Requiem -related pondering that I don’t if you have already discussed.  But when Masha is at the motel with Kate playing cards, she talks about missing her mother and Kate replied that Katarina is looking for a new place for them to live.  So that to me sounds like she and Kate have already discussed that going back to her old life with Rostov wasn’t an option before she got to Masha, since it is a week after she leaves her with Kate that she says the KGB knows about the affair.  I wonder what the plan was going to be?  Or at least what KR told Kate, if she wasn’t being honest with her.

Possibly, unless she was just saying that to keep her calm about the situation.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

I don't think there was ever any going back after the fire and whatever happened there.  And I don't think its possible to know whether what Kate told Masha was absolutely true.  She was managing a young child caught up in a situation.  Kate may not have even heard from KR.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

I guess I would have thought that comforting a child would have said “we’ll be going home soon”,  not “we’re finding a new place to live”.

I am sure Kate knew they were not going back Home and was not going to flat out lie to her but she did want to give her an answer.

Re: Season 5 Fall/Winter Hiatus Discussions

Official NBC Blacklist tweet this morning:
"Sins should be buried like the dead. Not that they may be forgotten, but that we may remember them and find our way forward nonetheless." Raymond Reddington, 'The Informant' 5.10

Of course this makes us think of the bones in the suitcase and the statement Raymond makes to Dom,
Dom: What the hell are you really doing here? What do you want from me?
Red: A way forward. I can't live long with what I feel inside. I..I
