Re: Episode 5.18 - Zarak Mosadek - Discussion Page

Yes, and whether Jennifer/Lillian is actually singing Garvey's tune.  Did Garvey consider that he would be followed.  We don' know.  But if he wanted to keep Jennifer a secret, its curious to me that he would meet with her when presumably the Feds were tailing him, as maybe was the Task Force/Liz and/or Red.

Re: Episode 5.18 - Zarak Mosadek - Discussion Page

My feeling about Garvey going to Pete's Tavern was that Lilly was probably usually acting as his waitress, so tails would not notice him talking to her. He probably knew the IA investigation on him was closed. For some reason, Lilly was just arriving as he was leaving this time, and Garvey didn't realize Liz and Aram were surveilling him. Or maybe, like Red knew threatening Garvey about Liz would get him to come after her, Garvey wanted Red and Liz to come after Jennifer. It may be part of Garvey's plan to put Red in an awkward situtation where he would have to tell the whole truth about the secret.

Everything about Garvey and Lillian meeting outside the tavern and the kiss was suspicious. So was Lilly telling Liz that Raymond Reddington was her father.

The plot thickens ...

Did anyone notice any fire imagery in this last episode? I couldn't think of any. I did find one piece of medical imagery when the Internal Affairs guy told Aram he had a first aid kit in his car.

I am suspicious of it myself.  I do not think she is a stupid as she lets on.  She did take note that it was her apartment and not the FBI office.

It was actually kind of funny in a very dry way: Liz and Lilly enter her apartment and Liz says:
"The Bureau is investigating Garvey"
Lilly sees the wall and says, "From your apartment."

Not a question, more like a, 'yeah, sure lady, makes sense to me'

Eastcoast - Thanks for the fireball imagery. I'll add that.

I know, lol  I has to laugh when she said it.

We have to remember she also has some of his DNA just like Liz does. Carla was not dumb either.  She was involved to some degree we just don't know what yet?

Lots of great speculation! Looks like we'll have an extra week to chew on it with TBL not returning until
April 25.

Re: Episode 5.18 - Zarak Mosadek - Discussion Page

I wonder if it will turn out that Garvey sees the bones not as a way to control Red and his power but as a way to control his access to Jennifer? To keep him away from her. I still think Garvey was maybe a young USMarshal who was assigned to take care of Carla and Jennifer when Red "disappeared". Maybe he thought that Red should have known that when he said you don’t know who I am, do you. Maybe Red does know that, but doesn’t want Garvey to know that he knows. We know Red operates totally on a need to know basis at all times.

Of course it all becomes more complicated now that Liz found Jennifer first. And has revealed who they are to one another.

Honey West - The idea of Garvey trying to control access is intriguing.

Re: Episode 5.18 - Zarak Mosadek - Discussion Page

I think it's interesting how children were used to exploit the adults around them in this episode. Mateen's kidnapping makes Mosadek willing to do anything - to pay anything - to save his child. A small boy is the one who notifies Mosadek of the kidnapping. Then, later in the cemetery, a teen-aged boy gives him the instructions on eluding surveillance and meeting the kidnappers. Mosadek comes off as a good father and decent person, despite being a drug lord and spy.

We've seen Red willing to give up everything for Liz several times in the series. That made him seem like the good father. But then we get Jennifer, who he abandoned and never seemed to spend much time trying to find. She claims him as her father, not her stepfather or someone who acted as her father. Yet she's spent most of her life trying to hide from him, and she actually seems to fear him.

It all leaves me with one question going forward: How will Liz and Jennifer be used to exploit Red and Garvey?

Re: Episode 5.18 - Zarak Mosadek - Discussion Page

Looking at 1983, that is given as the year Jennifer was born. When during that year would be interesting to know. That would also seem to be the year Red graduated from the Naval Academy. Ressler said he’d graduated by the time he was 24, which he would have been early in 1984. I figure he graduated in June 1983 which means he wouldn’t have been able to marry Carla before then, unless they were secretly married before he graduated. Who knows, maybe he felt like he HAD to marry Carla because of Jennifer. He sure didn’t waste much time after that before he got involved with Katarina and Liz was born. I really don’t get the impression that he and Carla were ever "happily married". And it makes me wonder who her family was that maybe that had a bearing on them getting married at all. Ha! Wouldn’t it be funny if her maiden name was Fitch?

Re: Episode 5.18 - Zarak Mosadek - Discussion Page

Honey West - you are so funny! So Carla Fitch, eh? You know I think someone even proposed that back in the day

Nothing quite adds up with Carla and Red though. I know Bokenkamp has said that the pilot is real, real people, real story, real background. I read through the pilot script that launched the series and there were some things that were changed when it went to screen. Mosty, the 'he abandoned his wife and daughter' was far more fleshed out. She had a different name, but they actually named her, Ellen, but they said something like, she lights a candle every Christmas Eve for his return.. So something changed in the story line between what was it? December 2012? to summer/fall 2013.

I'll have to go back to look at it. It's just interesting because they did have an idea for the storyline/ending, or at least I think they did, even before they made the pitch. You probably remember this better than I do though.

Bokenkamp wrote the pilot in November 2012 - part of it in the car as the family was traveling to his sister's for Thanksgiving.

I knew it had come up a long time ago, but I think we thought it was too improbable - at that time. Now - anything is possible again! Actually, I think it makes more sense now.
