HW #56 - I saw some posts also that Red may be doing this to himself. I think if he did, it would be to fake his death to try to root out the betrayer in his midst. And I only this this about the poison aspect of it. I don't think from what we've seen that he killed Small, blew up his own deal for the cruise line, conspired to have an old and loyal manager of his Mediterranean operations and his wife killed etc. I don't think the expressions on his face, which have been when he was in private, point to that.
But I could see him faking his death by a poison to which he secretly has the antidote. However, I don't think that is the case. Just a gut feeling though and nothing more.....

Hi Everyone!
My apologies if this has already been suggested - is it possible that Little Nikos went looking for Kaplan to get to Red (not knowing she was "dead") and is using/torturing her for Red's info? Kaplan was with Mountain Man for a while, but Nikos probably needed a lot of healing time himself. He was tortured so horribly that I didn't know for sure if he lived.
Except for the NSA/FBI/CIA/cabal theory (that is, not an individual Big Bad), Kaplan seems the most likely suspect. But because I like Kaplan so much, I don't want her to be willingly killing her former colleagues. Plus she would then be indirectly responsible for the murders Natalie Luca and her boyfriend committed, including his death. Given Kaplan's concern for Liz and Agnes (innocent people put in danger), I can't imagine her allowing such a thing (innocent teens being turned into killers).
Or maybe Kaplan turned evil thanks to brain damage from Red's gunshot wound ;-)

Okay, today while I was working around the house with lots of time to ponder the great issues of the day, like who might want to poison Reddington, I think I have a good idea of who might be behind it. Probably wrong. But if I had to place a bet, I would say it was either Laurel Hitchin or President Diaz. I know they keep misdirecting us with it being possibly a close associate, but c'mon, if it was Dembe or even Kate they wouldn't poison him. They'd make it quick and merciful with a bullet. He probably wouldn't even see it coming. But with poison, it is someone who wants him to know what's happening and to have time to think about it before he dies. This is someone who truly hates him. Plus poison is harder to trace and so it is probably someone who doesn't want their identity found out anytime soon. Somebody high up in the government perhaps? Like the national security advisor to the president? Is Hitchin still in that position with the new administration? It seems like it, but I need to figure that out because I don't know for sure. I'm sure she could pull enough strings to get appointed to that position with the new president, who also has good reasons of his own to get rid of Red. He doesn't need someone like Red in a position to forever blackmail him and pull his strings. So maybe they are working together to take him down. She would be after revenge for past humiliations and to remove him from his current place with the Cabal, and Diaz to just remove him. Either way, together or not, they both have plenty of motive. This fell together today because I remembered that scene at the end of The Director, conclusion where Red is having a drink with Laurel while they discuss their new relationship after he killed Peter K. I haven't checked, but a similar glass, with probably the same Scotch or whatever. She knows what he likes to drink and we found out when he was ordering Scotch from Dom's trip into town for groceries just how picky he was about his scotch. Hey, if Samar can track him down by putting a special dye in the ties that he likes to wear, how hard would it be for Laurel to make sure he got a bottle of his favorite Scotch with a little something extra added to it? Plus in murder mystery novels isn't poison the cliche murder weapon of choice if the murderer is a woman?
Just saying'.
Wanted add that if it is Laurel, would she want to make sure he knew before he died who it was that killed him? That would risk revealing herself, but on the other hand, would she do it?

HW - interesting thoughts. Back in Season 2, in the episode with the woman blacklister who was killing her victims with the crossbow (I forget the name and I am not in a place right now where I can look it up), Red doesn't think the Blacklister is a woman because theory has it that things more at arms' length are the preferred methods of women killers: poison, guns and one other method I can't recall. So is the poisoner a woman? could be - or else just someone who doesn't want to be easily traced and/or wants to see Red suffer. Or maybe someone who just can't get that close to him with a gun or knife.....
I listened to the Blacklist Exposed podcast this afternoon and someone who wrote in there had a theory, given that "Reddington" has paid Amanda Stone, that the "real" Reddington is the big bad somehow behind all of this.
That is a wild idea, and as someone who likes the imposter theories (though admittedly they do have holes), I like this idea. Although, I think there is little to substantiate it. But interesting to think about the possibility.....

I like the suspects you all have been offering up.
Colleen - I thought Little Nikos was dead, but if he's not, your theory is a good one!
Honey West - I like your idea that Hitchin or Diaz, or both together are behind the attack and poisoning. They both have reason to want Red gone.
lara1 - Wouldn't it be great if the real Raymond Reddington were behind it? And here's my addition to that. What if Mountain Man is the real Reddington, and has been hiding out for years on the Federal Bureau of Land Management's land? Wouldn't that be a delicious twist of fate?

Tuxie400 - OMG, I love that idea! And so the "single buildable acre" in the wilderness does actually belong to Reddington....except it belongs to mountain man as the "real" Reddington...and that would meet one idea I had, that mountain man is a blacklister or former foe of Red, who went off the grid into hiding. And in this scenario of course the real Red faked his death....
That would be awesome! LOL

I went back to the Mato episode. As far as I can tell Nikos survives. After Tom comes out from the room and tells Red how to contact Mato by cellphone text, Kaplan goes back into the room to talk to Nikos and says something like, I'm sorry Nikos, and Red comes in to fetch her and says something like , Kate, as they are leaving.
So it could involve Nikos somehow - maybe he helps Kate get back on her feet again. Maybe that's what was foreshadowed by Kate telling Red the story about how Nikos helped save her with her original head injury..........not to communicate that Kate may have a steel plate in her head (though she might) but to foreshadow what happens with her "next" head injury....
Also with Leon Rippy possibly coming back soon, its possible mountain man is in on it - maybe he was so interested in Red because he actually knows him and who he is.....and then of course mountain man could be the "real" Red......!!!!!!

WOW! Harry Lennix has a mini-interview with TV Guide about "The Apothecary" and he says this:
"I remember getting the script and thinking, 'Now this is something I didn't see coming,'" Lennix teases. "The writers have a unique gift at being able to open up and dig down new rabbit holes. ... It's going to answer a lot of questions, and it's going to raise new possibilities."
OH MY GOODNESS! There's the RABBIT again!

Hey some positive news on the renewal front:
"EXCLUSIVE: Enrique Murciano has been tapped as a major new cast addition on NBC’s drama series The Blacklist, from Sony TV and Davis Entertainment. The Without A Trace alum has joined the thriller drama for the last four episodes of the current fourth season with an option to be a series regular next season, pending renewal."

Tatiana - yes, more rabbits! and remember ARam talking about his pet rabbit as a child during The Forecaster!
Yes that article is great. So that's Harry now and Hisham both saying jaw dropping things about the episode.
And yes great news about Enrique - makes it sound like he's a long-term addition, as in, through the next season! well let's hope!!
really excited for the rest of this season....

Lara - I just keep thinking this is a "watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat" show!!! LOL
Harry Lennix sounded like he was really surprised by the script. Honestly, I"m like a school girl going on her first date, I'm so excited!!!

They've been running the promo a fair amount the past day or so and tonight as I was fixing dinner I had a thought. I did read those two JB articles in TVGuide and EW. But basically all he really said was that we would get a big reveal. He's been saying that for some time. I am not even going to speculate anymore as to what we will find out, especially after reading Harry Lennix say it was a twist he never saw coming. But as I was looking at the promo yet again it made me think: At the very end Red is asking someone, presumably the doctor, "How long can you keep me alive?" I originally jumped to the conclusion that he had just been brought in and was asking so he might have an idea of whether he'd last long enough for them to find an antidote. But...tonight I thought maybe this is after it's all over, maybe they got the antidote and saved him, but it turns out to only be a temporary fix. If that's the case then hopefully the "how long" is at least through a season five or long enough to finish the story. Hmmm.

HW - you got me thinking! (You usually do!!). You make a really good point. The "how long can you keep me alive" is a curious phrase unless it is as you say, something temporary - perhaps a fix until they find the "real" fix....
but - What if the "how long can you keep me alive?" has nothing to do with the poison. Some of us have speculated that Red is sick, as in physically sick, and we've had various comments around that in Season 3...
just a thought. that would be a cliffhanger! (Not that I'd like that, but - )

Yeah, I thought that same thing, lara1, that he is feeling pressed for time for some reason, maybe health-related. On the other hand, he had a pretty rough time with Kirk also injecting him with some nasty substances not so very long ago. He's not Superman. These things must take a toll, maybe it's time to pay the piper. And maybe whatever happens it causes him to really think about things and what the consequences of his eventual end might really mean to those he loves.

AlyBlacklist has a GlobalTV preview (I don't know how to connect) that is VERY telling!
You two may be right, it may be more than Red being poisoned! By the looks of the preview, it suggests that Red is dying... from something else.
The plot thickens!
Offline
thanks Tatiana - oh my goodness! and with the clock ticking!!!!
The last 60 seconds - what could that be? IF its Kaplan returning as the poisoner 'I'll be disappointed.
What if Red knows he is "dying" and tells Liz a huge truth? As he burned the letter he had with the Caretaker, changed his mind, but Kaplan is no longer around to communicate his wishes. Maybe
I could see it being a number of things. But hope we are truly surprised! LOL
