Argh . . . ! My head hurts. Lots to digest. The next show isn't until January 22.

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

It was a gut wrenching episode. So sad that Dom died, and sad Liz saw her "mother" die. I do think when the show comes back we'll see a very different Liz than we've ever seen before.  By the way, I think this episode may have been Megan Boone's best acting of the series.

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

Whoa-okay.

Well, true to the story so far, anyone who learns a truth about RR dies before they can tell Liz. I had forgotten that KR was #3. And we knew Dom’s days were numbered. So he tells her that Reddington is N13, but she doesn’t get to tell anyone else except Heidegger, and he was already dead.

For me the biggest takeaway was the admission by Dom that KR took the Sikorsky Archive, and still has it. And so does Raymond. KR was mystified. Either she took it and her memory was wiped, or she took it and didn’t know what she had. We speculated a long time ago that Liz had something either in her memory or something to do with her scar and that she might be a key to something. Red told her she was very special when she first talked to him in the Pilot. I think Liz is either the key to the Sikorsky Archive or else she is the Sikorsky Archive. It’s hidden in her memories, maybe.

I loved how Dom kept seeing the Lotte Katarina when he was out of it and looking at KR. In the end the old rascal seemed to regret what he’d done to her.

KR was so sure Red wouldn’t kill her because of Liz, but I think we all knew she was doomed. She said Liz knew who she was but still didn’t know who he was. That seemed to be her ace. Liz witnessing the killing is definitely a major turning point. She’s going to come after him and has nothing left to lose. I hope the Task Force and Agnes survive the war. But everything will change now. I suspect the only thing Red will have to play in the end would be to tell her who he really is to her. But I think he’d rather die than tell her that secret. I love how they can tell us so much but still manage to keep that one big secret in play.

I will do a rewatch, but we have until Jan 22 to do that. They always went on hiatus around Thanksgiving, but I was hoping they might at least get to the third story of 7 first.

**Since I posted this I read that JE said that killing Katarina was supposed to be the seasonn7 finale.**

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

Oh and I forgot. Red saying that he was the one who had kept Katarina a step ahead of her enemies all these years. Until she started getting nosey and looking for the truth herself. Did she know he had been doing that? I don’t think so. And what was his motivation? Was it because they both had the Archive? And as long as she was in the dark about it, he could let her live?

And what about Red's saying to Dom re Katarina, “She loves you, she always has and nothing will ever change that." I always remember the line about Katarina Rostova, one of her many names. So was this woman posing as KR all this time? And is KR still alive after all? Makes you wonder, especially when KR said that last thing to Red, that He couldnt kill her because Elizabeth loves her mother. Not "me", but "her mother". And she called her Elizabeth and not Masha. Aargh! It’s getting late and I’m probably reading too much into everything! LOL!

Liz really needs to get a KR DNA sample tested, but I suppose that’s one reason why they whisked her body away.

Lots to ponder over the next couple of months.

Sounds good!  I had gotten a pumpkin roll this week.  It had a pile of cream cheese frosting on top of it so I couldn't resist.

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

Definitely a lot happened tonight.
Tuxie, that was very sad.  Megan did do a really good job!

HW, I think she had her memory taken at some point too.
There must be something really bad that she did.  It must have something to do with Liz.  The way he said that she didn't know her really sounded personal.

I need to rewatch and collect my thoughts

I'm calling it... Either Red is #2 and Liz #1 or vice versa.

This was easily Ms. Boone's finest acting in the series. She was awkward in her first and part of her 2nd year but was stabilized as passable to average for most of the next few years as her role was totally subservient to James Spader - so a really strong actress (like Sarah Shahi or Amy Acker) was not required.
She also looked exceptionally glamorous on the Rostova finale - almost didn't recognize her.
Her work with Dembe was heart-wrenching.
Spader shone last night more for his expressions vs. his normal word expedition.
Casualties of the Rostova arc were Agent Park & Aram - they were virtually invisible throughout the episode as Aram seems to have been re-assigned his original role as a data entry clerk while Park is almost descended to an on-set extra - WITH BILLING . . . ! ! !

This episode was so much better than Pt. 1 - possibly one of the Top 5 episodes in Blacklist history.

Given TBL show-runners predilection for deception I'm still not convinced Katarina Mad-Ellen was fully offed. Red's workers scooped the body off the grass and stuffed her into the vehicle. Perhaps Red & Mad-Ellen foisted another hoax . . . . ? ? ? ? . . . .and didn't want to let Liz in on the joke?

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

BBB - I think Fakerina is good and dead. She won't be coming back. I think the reason they took the body was to prevent anyone from doing a DNA test on her. Bokenkamp said in an interview - I think on TVLine  - that she was really dead.

I agree that this was a terrific episode that would definitely make my Top 5.  Apparently the writing was so good, that it kept everyone's theories in play. I still think Red is Katarina.

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

Yes! Megan was excellent!

I'm still chewing on all that happened. I didn't understand the cell phone thing. According to Jody Walker, KR called Liz so all that dialog with Red went to her voicemail (link below).

So glad that Red didn't take a pillow to Dom!

More later after I've had a chance to rewatch and collect my thoughts. I've got to shift over to Thanksgiving preparations. I'm making holiday meals  and several pumpkin and apple pies for pickup and then on Thanksgiving, we will gather online (several groups at different times) to eat, drink, and talk. Not perfect, but safe and better than nothing!

Iowa Watcher - I'm so glad you are planning a safe Thanksgiving.  I see so many of my friends planning to have children and grandchildren travel to their homes, and it worries me.

Yes, that whole conversation with Red and Faker will go to Liz's phone, which Dembe now has.

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

Yes, I agree that was one of the best episodes of the series. Great writing by Lukas Reiter as usual. JS doesn't need to say anything; he is the master of the perfect expression and body language. But we all love to listen to him! Megan Boone was just terrific! I would say the entire series has been to build her character of Liz up to these moments where she can just shine. In the earlier stories we would never believe she could have any chance at all going up against Red, but now we can accept her as his worthy adversary. Kudos to those in charge of developing her character all these years.

At least one preview shows them with Katarina's body under plastic in a warehouse or something. Not sure why they didn't just drop her in a vat of acid, maybe she still has something they need to find? Yes, JE said she is definitely dead this time. Darn, I was hoping we would get a scene between her and Kirk before this was over.

We are just having a small Thanksgiving get together with local family that have all been seeing each other regularly all year anyway. All of your food talk is making me hungry! Must be lunchtime!

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

One thing TBL show-runners were wise beyond their years - casting a virtual unknown with only average acting skills in Megan Boone as Liz.

IMMO they were absolutely determined to avoid casting a massive scene-stealer like Amy Acker, Sarah Shahi or Olivia Munn as Liz because they needed audiences to focus on Spader's "Reddington" character.

So in retrospect Megan was perfect casting!

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

Also think Ron Raines (Dom) and Laila Robins (MAD ELLEN) may continue as actors in the series but only in retrospective scenes, dream and/or drug sequences. I accept that MAD ELLEN is done - and of course, there was no doubt about Dom.

Re: Episode 8.02 - Katarina Rostova, Conclusion

I agree about #1 and #2. I'd put Liz as #1 since she will survive Red #2, given his signs of serious illness and older age.

Great episode. I miss Brian Dennehy, though.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
