I agree, too many fake people or potentially fake people. I was so glad that Ilya turned out to be Ilya!

But he didn't!  Red was supposed to be Ilya and the Stranger was introduced as such (a stranger). We here on this board all thought he was Ilya but that was not the way it was written or how the general audience was supposed to view him. We just (jadely) saw through the ruse right from the start.

Plus, I always go back to the Pilot, and Red telling Liz that she was abandoned by a father who was a career criminal and a mother who died of weakness and shame. If you go by that, then KR cannot be the real KR that we have today. So, does this go back to the idea that KR was actually several different women who worked under that name?

I agree, the Pilot should be canon but I'm not sure JB is going to stick with that cannon even though he should. After all did Liz get the scar at 4 or at 14. That was never resolved.

I agree there are many different women who have gone under that name after Liz's mom walked into the sea.  I believe this Katarina was hired to be Katarina for Belgrade and apparently the mission didn't go according to plan, although Red told Dom he (Dom) betrayed her, so maybe it did go as planned by Dom but not as presented to current Katarina.

This writers of the show are a one trick pony. Present someone as someone they're not, then go as many episodes as the network will allow to stretch out the reveal.  Red was Red, then he wasn't, then he was Ilya, then he wasn't.  Tom was a loving husband until he wasn't, until he was a spy working for Berlin, until he was dead, until he was revealed to be alive captive in a boat, until he was a spy hired by Red who worked for the Major, until he was Scotty's son, until he was finally dead.  The Stranger was a nobody until he was Ilya. I'm rather sure this Katarina will be someone else.  And I won't be too shocked if the final reveal is that Liz isn't even Masha at the rate we're going.

Re: Episode 07:08 - The Hawaladar

I figured that The Stranger was Ilya the first time we saw him. But then I never bought Dom's story that Red was ever Ilya. Especially when Red demanded to know exactly what Dom told Liz and the look on his face when Liz told him she knew he was Ilya Koslov. Besides, when we saw Ilya in the flashbacks, he was way too tall to be our current Red.

KathyN - Everytime a character turns out to be someone other than advertised - except for Alexander Kirk - there have always been clues pointing to possible fakery. And we have a lot of clues with this Katarina/Constance/Madeline.

Probably a few more we will learn about.

Eastcoast - I was listing this Katarina's names to differentiate her from the Anna/Lotte version. Just to clarify, II don't think the aliases are clues,

Re: Episode 07:08 - The Hawaladar

Wow! You've all been busy. Lots of great thoughts here.

It has been a long week, and I'm easily confused. I, too, appreciate all the dialog in one place. Thanks!

I still don't buy that Red had a gender change, but I agree that it makes a lot of sense in light of recent events.

I'm going with KR being fake for now. She's just too unhinged to be real. I like the notion of her being used as the real KR. That would explain how she could shoot Dom.

As for the rest of it, I agree with a lot that was written. I don't like Agent Park that well right now, either. The chemistry at the post office is just off right now. I hope that it improves.

Laila Robins might actually be playing the REAL RED REDDINGTON . . . .

HA!

(And if that ever turns out to me true, I'll probably toss popcorn at my TV screen!)

I think some clearer enemies would fix this show, along with several changes: dump Aram's "girl friend" and get Ressler a love interest who works for Red. That could be fun! Get some sharper spy writing -- Fake KR can't be that dumb. Liz shouldn't be that dumb. Fix that. Not sure what the idea is for Agent Park, but she should probably exit stage left, soon.

Not sure what happened to the Cabal. All that got lost, too.

I'll quit here. Hope this week's show is better.

Good ideas, IW! The Ressler one would be fun!
They need to kind of streamline and clarify some of the murk, it's getting hard to follow. And this group is good at following!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks the story is hard to follow right now. It's not a hard fix at this point, either. It takes an extra line here and there to help clarify KR's motivation or what's happening with Dom or even what, exactly is up with Aram wanting to be with such a nutso woman. But I don't like that whole story line. She's just totally wrong for him. If they want to show he's starting to fall into the rabbit hole, there are other ways to do it.

I'd even be up for Tom coming back to do a short graveyard scene where he admonishes Liz to get her act together.

Re: Episode 07:08 - The Hawaladar

Honey West and IowaWatcher - The show has been too hard to follow this season. There's a difference between being mysterious and incoherent.

Re: Episode 07:08 - The Hawaladar

I hope tonight is better! I have a small piece of pumpkin pie with a little ice cream!  I'd put up the new thread, but I don't know what the episode is called.
