Episode 6.17 The Third Estate

It's time for The Third Estate this evening.  Does the plot against the government involve a group of commoners intending to take power?  Will Dembe walk away from Red after some spiritual counseling? I'll see you back after the episode to discuss the particulars.

I see we're set up, thank you Tuxie!
Not sure what I expect or hope for from this upcoming episode but I always enjoy The Blacklist.

Re: Episode 6.17 The Third Estate

Some observations:

We see yet another woman with long red hair to add to the guest star parade in the antique death device collector

The masked kidnapper wearing a mask and using a voice changer reminded me of Season 1's General Ludd.

I was surprised to learn Katarina's mother had died so recently. I expected her to be alive. And what's with Dom getting the letter that was supposed to be for her daughter?

I hate to say this, but the promo for the double episodes next week was a lot more exciting than the episode.

I loved seeing John Cullum as Tim King. He was Holling Vincouer in Northern Exposure. That was the first TV show I ever obsessed over.

Re: Episode 6.17 The Third Estate

I agree with your above post Tuxie.

Looks like Dembe is telling Liz she has to tell him.  I wish he would have told her about smokey.

So this is what we have learned from this episode.

Tim said he met her in 1998. She was from St. Petersburg.  Said she split from her husband in her 40's.
He found a pic in a book of her with a baby and she said it was her only pic of her daughter.
She had cancer.  Wrote her daughter a letter that was mailed to PO Box 642 in up state NY.  The box is registered to Tracey Ivers. Dom picks it up on 2.13.   She had just recently died.

The saddest line of the night for me was hearing the husband say if that stuff was true, then he didn't really know her at all.

By the way, that pic looks nothing like KR in my opinion.

The picture with the baby? I think that's Katarina's mother with Katarina as a baby.

Are you talking about the photo of the mother and baby?  The woman is supposed to be Virginia and the baby is Kat. I thought the woman looked like Liz.  Now we know where the dark hair comes from..

Re: Episode 6.17 The Third Estate

I made a small batch of fudge for Easter dinner, which we will have tomorrow (best weather day), so one very tiny piece was my treat tonight!

I'm still thinking about this episode. In terms of Virginia (KR's mother), I initially thought that she wasn't dead and that her husband was lying, but I decided that he was telling the truth and that he really doesn't know anything. I think the whole point of the two scenes was to show Dom picking up the letter.

Here's my main problem: WHY would KR give her mother an address at all? She was a hunted spy. Wouldn't she want to keep her mother safe? She was skilled. She had to know that she needed to disappear, have no contact with anyone from her past.

This is as far as I've gotten. I need to do a re-watch and look at the photos, again. I think one of the photos was in the flat (the flat that had the cat). I dunno. Maybe KR lives in that flat (and feeds the cat!).

Going to bed before I get any sillier!

Added: maybe Virginia was writing to Dom in the first place, pretending it was KR to her husband. That might make more sense.

Re: Episode 6.17 The Third Estate

I've been thinking about the Blacklist case. Anna McMahon was not connected to the Third Estate at all. She kept the file with the Third Estate information from main justice as a distraction for the Task Force. If they're working on that case, they wouldn't be investigating her plot.

We also had a fake death, which is par for the course on The Blacklist.  The twist that the kidnapped children faked their kidnappings to extort their parents mirrors what Rose Janus and Liz did in staging their own kidnappings, although they wanted things other than money.

That was sad - especially since he called her the love of his life.

Re: Episode 6.17 The Third Estate

I was thinking it was the only pic of her daughter  and thought it was KR with Liz for some reason.  But I guess it would be her with KR.  I'm tired.

IW, I was thinking the same thing.  No contact!  Maybe it was just a cover for her and Dom to communicate.
Im sure she Wanted him to know she was dying and he would not be hearing from her anymore.  Unless of course she faked her death too.  Lol

This seems to be a sad reality of this show.  It really is a bit old at this point.  I felt bad to think Ressler ruined his peace he had about her.

Re: Episode 6.17 The Third Estate

I was so sure that Richard Thomas was going to end up being in charge of the Third Estate.

I had a feeling Dembe was going to end up asking Liz to tell Red their secret.

Oh, and Red's comment about "must be the red hair".

“I am exactly who I am. And I can assure you, I’m a far more interesting Raymond Reddington than Raymond Reddington ever was."

Re: Episode 6.17 The Third Estate

So many things going on in this episode, I still have to process it.

I thought it was funny that the woman at the restaurant was reading a book by Andrew McCarthy, who's also the director of this episode.
