Which of our characters will Lady Luck smile on tonight? I'm curious about which members of Red's team will be grilled in his quest to find out who turned him in. How nervous will Dembe get? And how will Liz react when she finds out Red is seriously pursuing the culprit?
I look forward to discussing the episode with you later.

Thanks for starting the thread, Tuxie!
No wine or popcorn tonight because I'm crocheting a baby blanket for a co-worker that I need to finish this week. My munchie is an oversized oatmeal cookie.
Looking forward to the show!

You were so right, BBB! I can't believe Smokey got dropped from the plane just like The Director. Shocker!

What I learned on tonite's TBL:
1. Carneys can't fly
2. Ressler is duplicitous
3. Where was Aram hiding?
4. Moira is now in charge of the family business

I'm impressed that Ressler has found Katarina's mother. I think we will be seeing "Screen Mama's" flashbacks in Episode 19.

So the file on Katarina's mother said she married a Tim King and was living in Chicago. Her name in that identity is Virginia King, and her maiden name was given as Lopatin. Doesn't Lopantin sound like name of a drug? She's 81 and had Katarina when she was 22. Katarina would be 59 now.

I'm going to need some extra therapy to process this...

I don't have any fuzzy, warm feelings about Red right now. I've never liked it when he kills people - especially his own people. And just because they show him smiling at kids singing at the end, it doesn't make me like him one bit more. Frankly, who can blame people for cashing in when he was in jail and going to be executed.
I really feel bad for Dembe. He didn't understand making an example of Smokey any more than I did. I sort of feel like pushing Red out of the jet right now.

Thank you, Tuxie! Your recap helped.
I really hate trying to understand dialog through music! Between my older ears and my not-so-great TV, I had a hard time hearing all that through "Every Breath You Take," which was a great song choice! It just needed to be a lot softer. Tuxie's post helped, and the transcript will help, too.
All that said, I'm excited! KR's mom? How cool!
I'm not too sad to see Smokey gone. It's about time for Red to get a new set of helpers. I'm not shocked that he was dropped from the plane. Red is on the warpath.

I couldn't put that any better right now. Very disappointed in him.

Same here, Tuxie. I kept thinking, who's left? In season 1, Red had an army. Now we have Dembe and that's pretty much it. They'd have to make up new characters to kill off. Would Red really kill Dembe? Probably. Dembe just lied to Red, said he would stop Red from killing the wrong people if he knew who really called Red in.
But the kids smiling at the end is part of that is he good or is he bad stuff Jon talked about. Red does horrible things. But he does good things too. Does that make him good? Or does that make him bad?
Red's a big time criminal who's really into philanthropy.

My take: Red is cranky because he hurts, physically and emotionally, and maybe the drugs he's taking aren't helping his temper. I know lots of cranky elders who hurt all the time.
That doesn't excuse his behavior, but we've been shown that he's not a nice man! The producers remind us of that periodically. I see all the killings as a way to build drama and set the stage for some new characters.
PS -- that's not how I would write it, but no one asked me! (-:

I thought the Blacklister was pretty interesting. Her story reminded me both of The Deer Hunter and The Travel Agency Blacklisters. She was like the Deer Hunter because she killed the sort of people who had victimized her and tried to protect the spouses and children. Both of those women saw what they were doing as "kindness." Just as the woman in the Travel Agency, Lady Luck lost a child because of something her husband did. Both Lady Luck and Travel Agency mom used their disabled husbands to carry out their revenge. Travel Agency mom killed her husband in the end, while Lady Luck tried to off her paralyzed spouse. Both made their husbands suffer.

So was Al Capone.
I really think Dembe is going to walk away for good.
