Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

I like Singleton's character, but I also think he's going to bite it.   And I agree with what (I think) Lara said: I would like to see some new blood come to the task force.  Not that I want anyone to go necessarily, but I feel like it could use someone to come in and change the dynamics a little.  Granted, this new Liz certainly shakes things up, but I honestly wonder what she is going to be contributing to the team now and once she catches Tom's killer.  Can she go back to being a regular FBI agent Liz after all she has experienced? I don't know.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

I think there’s a possibility of Singleton being saved by joining the Task Force, but I’m not holding my breath. I think Liz’s decision to show him the post office was based on her profile of him as being trustworthy. But not with ALL of her secrets, such as her relationship to Red. She tells convenient parts of the truth, to get do e what she needs to do, just like her daddy does.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Just wanted to jump in as well and say how much i enjoy Singleton's character. The actor does a good job, too, as this is the kind of role that could be portrayed as a completely flat cariacature. And new blood in the PO, same thought here. What could potentially happen is Singleton could come in and Aram could do more on field work, something he asked to do at the end of last season.

Speaking of which, I like the name Singleton as he does kind of stand out among the rest.  He is an agent for truth.

I finally got a chance to re-watch tonight.  I thought it was a great episode.  The whole blacklister idea was really interesting and original.  A couple of observations:

I think that Liz really looked like KR in the scene with Red in the beginning, when she is wearing the blue sweater.  Also, some of her facial expressions and mannerisms recall KR.

The Blacklister's lair had one of the black metal fences

The masks Sinclair made reminded me of how they used to make death masks -won't know if that's a clue at all about the suitcase boens

Brian Barrett - worked for the department of defense in GREENbelt, Maryland.

digging up all of the bodies of the doubles, reminded me of Kaplan digging up her bodies.  So is the suitcase body a double?

Tuxie400, that tulip floral pattern on the Easter egg you spotted - it reminds me of a pattern we'e seen elsewhere in the show but I can't for the life of me remember where and what.....

Lara - I meant to respond to this earlier. It has really struck me how much Liz is looking like KR. If I were more tech saavy, I would post a screen grab from a recent episode where her eyes look like KR!  This clip, although not the best, does show how much more angular her face is, emphasized with high light/shadow contrast. I'm glad you brought it up. If you look at earlier episodes, she's softer and rounder, more girl like.

Digging up the bodies in The Invisible Hand definitely was reminiscent of Kaplan digging up all of Red's dead bodies.

I don't know how to make this smaller... :-(

Dembe & Singleton on a mission for Liz or Samar would be most interesting. Everyone knows how canny Dembe is (trained by Red) and his personal combat skills rank very high, too. Don't know much about Singleton's background but he's pretty bold - I assume his gunmaship and combat skills top shelf.

They'd truly be The Nigerian Nightmares !!!

As long as we're discussing Red's Book Club, I'll throw a couple of other things out there. Remember when Red was talking about loving treasure hunts and mentioned Robert Louis Stevenson and Edgar Allan Poe? Those are always two of the foremost authors mentioned when discussing works that feature doubles and doppelgangers. Poe’s William Wilson spins an eerie doppelganger tale, while Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde provides the literary model for multiple personalities and the shadow self

Tuxie - not on Red's Book-List but one of James Spader's favorites (he trotted it out the first time he was on Fallon and gave Nervous Jimmy a copy) is Joseph Mitchell's "Up in the Old Hotel" . .  .  don't know what your reading preferences are but I enjoyed the passages I've read to date. Here's a bitty reiview from goodreads.com

Saloon-keepers and street preachers, gypsies and steel-walking Mohawks, a bearded lady and a 93-year-old “seafoodetarian” who believes his specialized diet will keep him alive for another two decades. These are among the people that Joseph Mitchell immortalized in his reportage for The New Yorker and in four books—McSorley's Wonderful Saloon, Old Mr. Flood, The Bottom of

Don't want to turn our lovely little TBL site into a Joseph Mitchell appreciation thread but here goes:

Just an excerpt from Malcolm Cowley's review of one of Mitchell's tomes - McSorley's Saloon - - - - I do believe you'll see some very unique aspects of The Blacklist in Cowley's words:

"Reading some of his portraits a second time, you catch an emotion beneath them that curiously resembles Dickens’: a continual wonder at the sights and sounds of a big city, a continual devouring interest in all the strange people who live there, a continual impulse to burst into praise of kind hearts and good food and down with hypocrisy.” —Malcolm Cowley, The New Republic

I do think Liz's leaner look this season along with the longer straighter hair makes her look more like Katarina.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Tuxie400 #211 - interesting that you mention Jekyll and Hyde, for no particular reason that popped into my head the other day when I was thinking about Red.  LOL

#214 - intersting observation about accidental shootings maybe because of eyesight.  Is that the lesson of Mr. Magoo?  the cartoon character was always making mistakes because of his failing eyesight.  By the way that cartoon is a blast from the past too.  I know it fit in when shown in Requiem, but it made a subsequent modern appearance - can't remember exactly, may have been when the carnies were watching TV when Red and Liz arrived.  I know whenever it was I noted it at the time.

Eastcoast - yes it was me who asked about the tulip pattern.  It would make sense it was in Velov's house.

Tatiana - I think they are purposely framing and filming Liz to look like KR, and I think Megan is copying her facial expressions in particular (as scripted).  its interesting to watch!

Mr. Magoo was on the tv when Mr. Kaplan was using a circular saw on the hotel wall to extract one of Red's dead victims.
It was an AWESOME scene! And the AWESOMEST music: Cake's interpretation of "I Will Survive" in a raw, gutsy rendition (some profanity)... Heres' the song

lara1 - Yes, the other Magoo cartoon was in Smokey Putnam. It was playing in the carnie's office. Maybe the Magoo link is to vision issues. But I'm thinking it's an accidental shooting filmed to the song Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, as in happening at the fire.

I had to laugh watching Jeopardy tonight. Who is James Spader was one of the questions. I think the answer was "He was Pretty in Pink, but now he’s Red in NBC's The Blacklist."

I think The Blacklist would have just flown out of my mouth, lol

HW, have you any idea if you might try out again to get on there?

That is a good thought, but he was pretty accurate when he shot Susan H.

I think we need to add a list of the Magoo cartoons and which episodes they are in just for the heck of it.  Never know if there is a hint in those?  Just seams like too many times to ignore.

I was just thinking that Kate has bad eyesight and MR. Magoo could be a reference to her.

HW, I hope he is on the up and up. I still have a small doubt but I suppose a visit from Red is going to straighten out any doubts he might have about going to Garvey.

I do not think Liz looks anything like KR. She looks more like Naomi to me.  I have noticed they are trying to make her resemble her more but its really not doing it for me.  Thin is the only thing I see for now.

Re: Episode 5.14 - Mr. Raleigh Sinclair III - Discussion Page

Just been pondering the ballerina reference again.  Its interesting that it brings up another kind of reference to duality:  Eliza/beth.     Beth in the pilot attending ballet class, wearing a bracelet not entirely dissimilar to KR's bracelet put in the time capsule.   Liz now confirming that she did ballet as a child.  Two mirror images of the theme, illustrated by the two book-ends of the name, in a way.

I'm still not convinced that ballet girl is Liz.  Aside from the age (which I agree could be messed up), Red watches that performance against the backdrop of his narration of the letter to Donald, about deep, almost unbearable loss and grief.  To me Red is grieving the loss of someone.  And why would he need to re-create the ballet scene in order to be close to Liz, when he was already back in her life?  That part made no sense to me.  Its like he is longing for someone else.

Just my take, obviously.  He could also be grieving the lost time with Liz as a child.  But it really doesn't fit the words that are being spoken while he watches the ballet.  Not for me, anyway.  Although who knows who it could be, if not Liz......

I can finally take the online test again and will do it either tonight or tomorrow night. After you audition you go on a list for 18months before you can take the test again if they don’t call you to go to LA. If I pass the test and get called to,audition again I will have a much better idea of what to do the second time around. I Hope!
