IowaWatcher - I didn't even notice the coin. I think I was missing a lot of details tonight.
I know that I was! It was a fast-moving episode, and I'm not at my best and brightest by Wednesday night.

I liked that Ressler said he doesn't see everything in black and white now. That shows character growth for him.

Iowa Watcher - I just saw a gif of the whiteboard message on tumblr. The message said "We Know The Truth." There were two round magnets at the top of the whiteboard. And I wonder if it's significant that the board was placed on the stove (and this episode was called The Cook). With all these fires, it seems to me the secret and the skeleton have something to do with Fire Night. But who knows?

iowa watcher, it looked like something just holding it there.
Was it on a dry erase board? The coin thing could have been a magnet...I would have to go back and watch it again to know for sure but my first impression was dry erase board, which are sometimes magnetic. Or maybe a type of battery (like those round circular ones that go in electronics)? I didn’t get a good look, just that it was goldish and round.

I’m interested to know what fire the guy was talking about when he saw Red. He has been in prison for 11 years but was a fire investigator before that. What if the fire he mentioned was “the fire”? He is old enough to have been a fire investigator ( or more likely a fire fighter) back then. I think he said something about a name Friztl or whatever.
Ugh! I hope the name wasn't Fritzl! That was the rapist who built a dungeon under his home, drugged his own daughter, and kept her in there for 24 years. Sickest of the sick.

Okay, gotta rewatch. I ended up trying to fix dinner while watching. Never a good idea. Wow, I was surprised at Red. He seemed to tell Liz a lot and was so emphatic in his not being able to tell her what his secret was. He looked pretty uncomfortable telling her that much. Yet, in the past Dembe has told him she deserves to know the truth. But did he mean the Big Secret or just the truth about him being Dad? Red’s in a pickle. If he isn’t honest with Liz then he will lose her. She might not just walk away, she could very well get herself killed trying to discover his secret. She was sounding a lot like Tom.
I figured that eye was a tracking device. Garvey's way of keeping track of Navarro. The question is when was it implanted? Did Garvey do it to use Navarro as bait figuring that eventually Liz would catch up with him. He seemed to have figured out that the way to find a Red was through Liz. I guess Navarro was some very elaborate bait. The whole thing made me think of Kate and that guys eye.
I didn’t quite catch that name about the fire, but I had the idea that they were talking about The Fire.
I think the story is getting more interesting with each episode, if that’s possible. Loved the hacker kid and his mom. They are at their best when they balance the darkness with characters like them.

Thanks, folks! Yeah, it probably was a magnet.
Sometimes a magnet is just a magnet. LOL!

HW, I was surprised too that he told her that much. I agree with what you said. He seamed to be so nice about it. Maybe he was thinking she would let it go and respect it was his secret. But she has realized that this has actually contributed to Tom dying. He told her he warned him which seamed to irritate her. But no one in that situation is going to do that after all they have been through.
Dembe keeps telling him to just tell her. So many people have died since he came into her life that she cared about. And even after all this he is still not telling her and allowing her to put herself in danger.
That eye had to be something of that nature when we saw it. I thought It was funny when that kid said they had a situation. Him and his mom were great!
I have to wonder if Navarro knew that his eye was a tracker? Maybe he lost his eye at some point and he replaced it for him with that one without his knowing it. What I do not understand is why did it take so long to track them?
I wonder if Red knows who it is that has the suitcase? Is that why he wanted Liz out of there? It did seam like they had a good opportunity.
I can definitely relate to Red about knowing basically nothing about Star Wars. Lol

Although Red may be befuddled about that Face-Thing and clueless about Star Wars and extols the literary pleasures of Tolstoy, we do know that one of his guilty pleasures is a law-themed tv show... hmmm, I wonder if we know which one, and whom his favorite character might be?

Eastcoast - Yes, they did have an opportunity to meet with the killer. But I think Red got them out of there for two reasons:
1. He didn't want to take the chance of the Keeper of the Bones spilling the secret to Liz.
2. He wanted to get Liz, Tadashi and his mom out of harm's way.

I did just read Jodi Walker's recap, and I have to say I agree with what she had to say about the Blacklister side of the plot. I know it was all to get Fagan out of prison and in Red's debt, but they could have made that woman victim a little more than one dimensional. And when they had her in her undies about to be attacked that was pretty cliche. But the Red and Liz and Dembe stuff made up for it. I hope we see more of Tadashi and his mom in the future. I hate to admit I cared way more about their fates than the blacklister's victims and that didn’t seem quite right.

Tatiana - Fagan did say the Fritzles fire. Fagan brings to mind Dickens' Fagin character and Fritzl was the Austrian case you noted about the sexual abuse of a daughter held captive for 24 years.

After watching this episode and the way Red talked about his 'secret', it makes me wonder which of my theories I believe more at this point (whether KR is in the suitcase and there is some big thing connected to her death or if the bones lead to evidence that she's alive and Red has been protecting her by making people believe she is dead). If Red is protecting Katarina, I could see him not being willing to tell Liz about her. This is the first time Red has shown real concern about anyone knowing the truth, not just Liz. And the Garvey people left the note that they know the truth. I'm still not sure how much I believe Red knows about who has the bones. Perhaps it is similar to the Kirk situation, where he thinks he knows, but wants to be sure? I'm really eager to see how they handle this. I was so concerned about how this story line was going to carry on during the entire season, but Liz knowing Red's secret is connected to Tom's death at this point will keep it interesting. But I'll miss the closeness Red and Liz have had up to this point. She's going to be back to not trusting him and being angry with him again. Sigh.

Brittany - Liz didn't seem as mad as I thought she would. She seems more frustrated with Red than anything.
I don't have any new thoughts on the suitcase body after last night. Red's statements all seemed pretty generic.
Tuxie-I agree she isn't as angry as I thought she would be. I think if their relationship hadn't gotten as close as it has this season then she probably would have been angrier and maybe just walked away completely or told him she would once they catch the killer. I imagine there will be a multitude of factors that come into play with how she handles it long-term. I'm dying to find out how Dom comes into play next week.

I think this was a fine episode. Nothing really spectacular but some progress in the main plot and a blacklister that was well-played and creepy.
Something that has bothered me for some time continues to bother me here, however. The writers are using several names over and over again. In this episode there is another Thomas/Tommy after Thomas "smiling Tommy" Connolly, Tom Keen and Tommy Phelps (and also Jacob Phelps of course). In addition we now have Earl Fagen and Earl King from 3 seasons ago. The writers are either out of names (seems unlikely) or there might be some meaning behind this. Or, of course, I'm imagining things but I think there could be a reason for all the similar names.
Also, wasn't Borakove kind of Red's tech guy? Not that I didn't like this kid, it seems a little unnecessary to add him. Nevertheless, it's alwasy nice to get to know new members of Red's team.
