Brittany - interesting thoughts. I also wondered whether Garvey had become romantically entangled with Naomi way back when. He could even be the "real" father (whether or not Red ever knew, if you accept that Red "is" Jennifer's father), but i think its more likely that Garvey became obsessed with Carla and this was one way to keep Jennifer (and maybe Naomi) close. Because, he didn't just look out for Jennifer, he was emotionally involved - going to graduation and other "family" type things.
Though - I did notice that the photos in Garvey's house did not show any childlren, at least what I could tell. And is his wife even still alive? So - further thoughts:
- Jennifer was the child he wanted but could never have
-this one is more out there - Red was somehow responsible for his wife's death and so revenge, as well as obsession, has fueled all this. Just an idea - would be another parallel with Red.

There were what looked like adult children in the photos. At least that’s what I interpreted them to be
Though I also wondered as well since posting this is if Garvey could have been involved before 1990.

Thanks, Brittany. I will go back and look at that, re-watch. I do remember a couple of photos had other people in them. But I guess, no childhood photos, like Red and Kirk had of Liz, for example. Most people keep photos of the kids as children.

I think with the other people it was more for our benefit to see that they had childhood connections to one another where with Garvey we didn’t need that. Interesting thoughts, Brittany. Unless Garvey killed someone close to them, a la Liz and the harbormaster's daughter. Red talked to Liz about that like he’d done the same thing, or maybe had seen it. Makes me wonder.
I just went back and watched that opening scene at Garvey's house. It showed a few pictures of him and his wife, then a young man and a young woman, sometimes with both of them, one of Garvey and the guy together, one of the woman and the 'kids' together. none of them were young pictures. But perhaps were varying stages of college/young adulthood.
As for Garvey's wife still being alive, Aram had said he was married just in the last episode, so I'm assuming she is.
I thought back to Jennifer saying Garvey got them into Witness Protection. I initially thought maybe he was the initial Marshal contact, but perhaps they knew them (or at least Carla/Naomi) before and pushed for the WITSEC? I'm really interested to see how they bring this around and involve Carla/Naomi (either directly or just in talking about her).
I thought the teaching Jennifer to drive thing was what stood out the most to me. I've gone to the graduation for teenagers I've worked with in the past when they've asked me to attend, but I'd never teach one of them to drive! (I don't look forward to teaching my own child to drive.) Why didn't Carla teach her? I wonder if their relationship wasn't good or if it was just this closeness they all had during that point in her life.

Brittany - The teaching her to drive was what convinced me Garvey and Jennifer were really close. The father of my three cousins was murdered when they were very little (3-6),, and it was my dad who taught the older two to drive. Their mom, my dad's sister, said they made her too nervous. Plus, my dad had promised the older boy he would teach him when Les was about 7.
I meant it sounded like she may not have been close to her mother. Because the driving thing definitely made it look like she was very close to Garvey.

It was interesting to me that Red says he didn't know Ian but he offered to fly him and his wife so he did know he was married. The whole thing is strange.
Naomi didn't act like her and Jennifer had any problems to me.

It said on the news that he had been a Marshal for 30 years. So he was kind of new when they got in the program that they didn't need. So now we have to find out if Naomi was in on this.

Just musing out loud . . .
-Fitch and various "elders" groom the real RR to become a double agent.
-Naomi is Fitch's daughter and an operative herself.
-The real RR gets Naomi pregnant with Jennifer.
-The real RR also get KR pregnant with Liz/Masha.
-The "imposter," a Russian agent, is groomed to take over RR's identity. He's KR's brother. (Dom is their father).
-The real RR is killed, either by the imposter or KR.
-Mr. Kaplan knows a portion of the truth: she doesn't know the identity of the imposter.
-Garvey is related to the real RR (maybe a step-brother?) or Mr. Kaplan or maybe Fitch.
-Garvey kept watch over Jennifer to keep her safe but also because he knows something is fishy about
the "new" RR.
I know that this theory doesn't take into account what the imposter may have done to KR. I'll keep pondering that.
Best I can come up with this morning. Tom and his folks tie into all this somehow, maybe via the Warrior Gene program (discussed on the previous board).

Iowa Watcher - Interesting thoughts! I had a theory much like that a couple of years ago. Earlier this year I thought Garvey might be the real RR's brother. But now I don't think he has a family connection to any character we've seen on the show. For whatever reason, he connected deeply with that abandoned little girl and became her surrogate father. And if Garvey is the alternate Red or the mirror for Red, I think we'll find out that Red is not Liz's biological father.

Yes, I remember that, now, Tuxie. I was trying to put a new twist on all of that but I probably didn't.
You're probably right about Red not being Liz's biological father.
My other thought is that Garvey thinks he knows "one truth," but it's also possible that he's got it wrong.
LOL! Too complicated for me this afternoon. I think I'll go take a nap!

Iowa Watcher - My theory from back then only had a few similar elements. I wasn't saying what you've proposed is the same, and I think you did put a new spin on it. I was just trying to acknowledge your effort. I've always thought it would neat if Naomi turned out to be Fitch's daughter. I think you came up that one originally on the old board. I remember we discussed the idea quite a bit back then.
Trying to put the pieces together is always complicated. I'm sure I've suggested many more than a dozen theories over the years, many of them canceling each other out. LOL

Me, too! I can usually figure out these shows, but this one hasn't given us enough clues, which is part of the fun.
Still, I wouldn't mind if a few more loose ends got tied up.

I do not think it would to far fetched if she were his daughter. It could fit in.

Good discussion all. Good points, IowaWatcher.
I think I figured it out - Garvey was the real Raymond Reddington!

I know you're winking at us, but I thought about that as a possibility and then discarded it.
What if somehow Raymond Reddington's father had a seat on the Cabal. He wasn't highly placed but high enough where he kept his son, Raymond, out of the way to keep him safe. No one knew what his son looked like. The senior Reddington was murdered. The real Raymond Reddington was said to have been killed but he was placed with a family in fly-over country, like Liz, and grew up and got into law enforcement. Later, he found out his true identity and was told that an imposter had assumed his, so when he met Naomi, he had a personal connection to her case.
I discarded this theory because I couldn't figure out who the bones belonged to that Tom would recognize and would fit. KR is entirely possible, but why would Garvey say that the bones have power over Reddington? That really only makes sense to me if the bones are of the real Reddington.
Of course, Garvey could be a brother of the real Reddington. That fits a little better.
And I'll quit here because I don't want to give myself a fresh headache this fine afternoon!
