We're on antenna and I don't think NBC has ever buzzed out in us like this.

I second second that BBB and Tuxie: Megan Boone is really knocking it out of the park.

Liz Keen for ruler of the universe.  I'm loving this and Megan Boone is fantastic.

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

The show was fast-paced and held my attention throughout. The old Liz Keen would never have been this violent - burning two people alive. And apparently she learned a few things about how to clean a crime scene from Kaplan. This is the first episode I've ever seen where Megan outacted James. The scenes with Red seemed weirdly cold.

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

Fantastic episode.  Story, direction, production, acting, all first rate

There were so many parallels - storylines, characters, dialogue, that it was hard to take all of it in.  I'll do a longer post tomorrow, but this episode has started to gel a theory for me that I've been ruminating over ever since I (and others) started to pick up on the re-telling of previous stories, but in different ways, this season.    More tomorrow.

I missed chatting live with you guys!

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

No black-lister # in opening title - but for all intents and purposes it should have been called

RED UNIVERSITY - THE GRADUATE

Megan enters the pantheon of amazing female action/adventure characters - previously & solely occupied in TV by the one-of-a-kind Root - played by Amy Acker on Person of Interest.

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

The only thing the show-runners did wrong tonite was The 4 Bad Guys with Bad Guy Stink all over them. I guess in a 42 minute laydown you can't do much else with these types. . . . . . but they sure smelled of bad guy from the moment SUPER GRACE the HELLHOUND found them - and plotted their demise faster than they were plotting hers!

lara1 - We got a Christmas reference and a ghost reference.

Tatiana - You are so right about Liz transporting the wounded guy like Mountain Man moved Kaplan!

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

What kind of woman could take down four gangsters and disappear without a trace? Maybe the daughter of Raymond Reddington and Katarina Rostova. And is it nature, or the nurturing/training she's gotten from Red these past four years? A fully-alive Elizabeth Keen is pretty impressive. Long may she reign.

Tuxie400 - yes, I found the choice of words to describe Grace used by her former neighbors to be very interesting.  Reminded me of the OREA description of KR in one way.  In another, they were describing someone who never existed.

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

The real turn was when Grace told the main criminal she wasn't Grace - just gave him the unvarnished truth. That was truly chilling - especially the way she delivered it . . . .

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

I now wonder what the show-runners want to do with the secondary premise of the show - ie. delivering blacklisters to The Post Office?
Will Liz join Team Red w/ Dembe?
Or can she return to the post office and work with The Happy Gang?

fwiw - I think she'd be better off as Red's lieutenant vs. 5th person in the PO

Any thoughts?

I think she will be so consumed with her revenge quest that she'll have trouble doing the usual task force business. But I do think she will go back to the Task Force. I'm thinking some of the cases going forward will involve finding Garvey and his confederates. Red will want to reacquire the suitcase and he will let Lizzie have her vengeance.

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

I haven’t read any of the comments yet, but I have to say wow! And who else thinks that guy in the store was one of Red's people? I don’t think Liz was the only one who broke a promise.

Kate the dog couldn’t protect her in the end either.

Megan Boone knocked it out of the park in this episode.

I have to watch it again.

So, just what does Cooper know about what happened with Tom? The way Red spoke when he told Cooper that Liz was determined to find answers. It made me think that they share some common knowledge or something about it. A lot must have happened in the lost months. I wonder if the rest of season five and maybe beyond may be the unraveling of those mysteries by Liz. She’s bound to find out about the suitcase, or at least that there was something that Tom found that lead to his being killed and that it involved Red.

Anyway, I can’t wait to read the recaps and the discussion on here.

Re: Episode 5.09 - Ruin - Discussion Page

The little I read on Twitter, people seemed to think Liz was behaving more and more like Red, but I think maybe she was more like her mother - resourceful, smart, clever.
She was also described as a ghost at the end, like Katarina or even Kate, if you go with the ghost from the wishing well thing.

So, was Red also consumed by vengeance at some point, to where it led him along the path he followed. Did anybody ever try to stop him or talk him out of it?

Definitely both, Tuxie400. They really set up the nature vs. nurture thing back with Linus Creel. Maybe what we are seeing is why Liz is so "special", as the product of her two very capable parents, she may have a super distilled version of their DNA. I do,think Katarina also possessed the Warrior Gene, and also still believe that Katarina’s pregnancy was no accident.
