Re: Possible Parallels

Well, if Red is doing a crossword in that scene, I think all of the hairs on the back of my neck will stand up!  LOL

Re: Possible Parallels

I rewatched 5.16 today. Here are some parallels

Liz with pillow tasked with smothering the Sandman was similar to Red smothering Sam with the pillow.

Red not wanting to ask Garvey questions was similar to Red not wanting to question Diane Fowler about what happened to his family.

Ressler comforting Liz wrapped in a blanket mirrored Ressler and Liz after her close call in The Stewmaker.

Re: Possible Parallels

Oh, I forgot the most obvious one: The Capricorn Killer being a copycat serial killer just like in The Deer Hunter. And ultimately the new Capricorn killer was a woman behind a man: Dr. Sharon Fulton.

Re: Possible Parallels

Tuxie, I have had parallels flying through my head all day! I just need to get a moment of time and write them down.
I also thought it was like he did with Diane not asking her the questions.  I think that is strange. However, if all is true about Carla being his wife and he had met with her and had an agreement then he already knew they were ok.  If it is another family I cannot imagine why he wouldn't ask her unless he cannot deal with the truth.
I also thought he doesn't like being put in the 'moment of surprise or on the spot' so to speak in front of anyone to see his reaction.

Re: Possible Parallels

lara, I thought you had your plaid here and I saw something for you.  Maybe I just don't see it?

Anyway, I was re-watching the first 4 episodes of S-2 and I noticed that Frank wore a plaid shirt and Naomi was sleeping with a red plaid blanket.

Re: Possible Parallels

Thanks eastcoast.  I did not add plaid, because it is, as far as I can remember, in every, or nearly every, episode.  I think it has an overall meaning to the series but don't yet know what it is.  We have plaid shirts, plaid jackets, plaid blankets, plaid throws, plaid curtains, tablecloths, even plaid wallpaper.  So it is a pervasive theme.  I've heard it said somewhere that it might indicate deceit, or illusion, but hey that's TBL.

I also did not note hospital references, because that is in nearly every episode as well - either a hospital, ICU, medical office, ambulance, etc.  But now Tuxie400 is kindly doing that (thanks Tuxie400).  And we may or may not include other medical imagery (needles/injections, medical tools, prescription drug bottles) in that, I have some of it in the parallels list.

Re: Possible Parallels

Not really a parallel, but it just struck me this morning that Liz and Ressler both have in common the killing of a couple of prominent government officials. I think what made me think about it was a post this morning from a TBL on either FB or Twitter, can’t remember which, saying that Liz and Ressler make a great team.

“I am exactly who I am. And I can assure you, I’m a far more interesting Raymond Reddington than Raymond Reddington ever was."

Re: Possible Parallels

Honey West - Not only do Ressler and Liz have killing governement officials in common (Hitchins and Connolly), they both have killed people accidentally - Hitchins and Navarro. I do consider both of those situations parallels.

Re: Possible Parallels

HW, that did cross my mind a while back and then it flew away....  lol

This is why we need this board, it is so easy to forget stuff sometimes.  Parallels are a given in my opinion and normal in some ways. But I have to admit they are really piling up. I do not know if I have ever seen a TV show where I have seen so many?

Tuxie, I didn't think of that one.

Agreed. Unless you make it a full-time job, there's no way you could remember everything. And, yes, I've never seen a TV show with so many parallels. Part of it, even by JBs admission, is recycling old plots into a new story. It's hard to be creative, let alone creative for over 100 episodes. But this thing is clearly chock full of parallels, patterns, symbols, literary references, ... you name it!
