Totally. I love that they do that. It makes TBL... richer!

That was a really good episode.  Especially the end.

Re: Episode 5.05 - Ilyas Surkov - Discussion Page

Wow. Season 5 is really great. Even the "filler" episodes have sooo much to say in how they tell the main story and mirror previous recurring themes.

Something was definitely missing from that cemetery conversation between Red and Liz.

Aida Turturro is growing on me.

I figure the medical guy (Pete?) just injured his fingers while choking Dr Nik. Didn't the person use a wire? Maybe from the force used to strangle him? Wait, so now we know that Pete killed Nik....right?

Loved the episode.  Very tightly woven together.  Really nothing superfluous.  Kept everything moving along and the story was great, didn't see the various twists coming.

Pete did look like Tom when he transformed into the Nazi cover. And why were his fingers bleeding. Did he cut off his own fingerprints?

Re: Episode 5.05 - Ilyas Surkov - Discussion Page

JackPow - I'm not sure.  maybe someone tried to kill him and he got away.  Injured his hand.  Why he is now changing his appearance.  He tried to get "smart" about it and got in way over his head.

That's my thought.  Unless I missed it.  But your idea about the wire is interesting too.  Could be!

I loved Red with the bulldog! And taking over the Critter Camp as a way to launder proceeds from the B'nB business was a nice nonprofit dog biscuit

Hawkins still annoys me, although it was funny when she was hitting on Dembe.

As Sherlock Holmes would say "The GAME IS AFOOT" - Tom knows that Red knows that Liz knows that Tom knows that - you know . . . . lol

The writers have assigned Aida a wonderful 'plum crazy sex addiction with an added dose of flirtility"

Re: Episode 5.05 - Ilyas Surkov - Discussion Page

I just want to take a moment to admire Red for what he said in the cemetery--he could have begrudged Nik for taking part in helping Liz fake her death.  He was the one who actually faked the death and repeatedly lied to Red during interrogation.  But he didn't.  Instead, he talked about the most important things Nik had done in his mind-saved his own life and brought Agnes into the world and he wanted to pay his respects.   It reminds me of 4x04 when Liz is talking to Red about how she lied to Red about Kirk not making contact. Instead of calling her out for the lie or getting a dig in at Tom for stupidly trying to follow the link without his help, he sympathizes by saying that the link was "incredibly cruel" of Kirk to set up.    Red's life has shown him what truly matters and what people need from him in certain moments.

Aida is growing on me also.  Brings a dose of common sense and they have given her the requisite oddities to her personality so she fits right in!.  I like it better when they don't have her doing a forced/contrived spat with Smokey.

LOL, BBB..."'plum crazy sex addiction with an added dose of flirtility" Where do you come up with those funny lines?!? Like your recent one about the the writers writing the rather weak episode 3 "cobbled together at the last minute on the back of a Subway napkin"

Re: Episode 5.05 - Ilyas Surkov - Discussion Page

BBB #70 - you made my day with the Sherlock ref!

Brittany #42 - excellent points. It speaks to a character's, um, character  Not so easy to take the high road and show gratitude.

Red seemed surprised and even at a loss when he heard Tom's voice on the phone. I wonder if he and Tom - for the sake of Liz - will eventually join forces to retrieve the suitcase. After first trying to race each other to Pete for the suitcase. Hmm, maybe they'll ask Tom's dad if they can borrow the Artax Network to locate Pete.

Re: Episode 5.05 - Ilyas Surkov - Discussion Page

Colleen, I think you're right. I didn't quite get rage/vengeance from Red's facial reaction to hearing Tom's voice on the phone. I can't quite name it yet but it almost seemed more like distress. As for the foreshadowing from the premiere, I feel that Red and Dembe were never shooting at Tom but instead will be busting in to rescue Tom. I think it definitely makes sense that Red and Tom may now join forces.

Being circumspect has its rewards Jack.
I used to be a bit of a young writer.
Now I'm too much an old thinker.

Re: Episode 5.05 - Ilyas Surkov - Discussion Page

Colleen and JackPow - will be interesting to see where it goes with Tom/Red.  Joining forces is an idea.  But not right away - I think Red was generally shocked and alarmed to hear Tom's voice.  I think he'll want to find out more about Tom's involvement first.  For Liz's sake if nothing else, I think.

Tuxie400 - fingerprints.  hmm.  very interesting thought!  And so he doesn't have tattoos but he has scars....
I just can't believe how many mirror image parallels they are tossing into these episodes.......everyone is everyone.....hmmm

Re: Episode 5.05 - Ilyas Surkov - Discussion Page

You don’t see it as much in the show as you do in the stills from Liz sitting by Meera’s grave (which I was sad to not see shown tonight) but her shoes are kind of a dark red (and perhaps velour?).  She wears similar shoes in 5.02 when she’s dressed for the party, though they are brighter, open toed, better suited for the scene.  Perhaps a reference to ruby slippers, Dorothy trying to get home?  The shoes become darker, less fun as she gets deeper. Maybe nothing.  I just love shoes and tend to notice them.
