I saw a good question on twitter today. Someone asked, "why Tom?" About why is it Tom picking up the suitcase? Good question, I thought. Discuss!

Why not Tom? Kaplan knows Tom loves Liz and thinks he still wants to keep Red out of his family's life. Who else would she trust to do what's best for Liz? I think her confederates in this plan are Tom and Dr. Nik, the same two in the plot to fake Liz's death.

True, Tuxie400. One of my theories is that it is a terrific way to get him back into the storyline. And now that we've seen that Dr. Nik will likely be back, too, that makes it more likely to be as you said. But it does only work if Kate was positive that this was in Liz's best interest to know about the suitcase and its contents. She must have been absolutely certain. Meanwhile we can only speculate about that as well as whose bones those are. Because one will probably define the other.
I had an interesting thought about that. Suppose the bones are not Katarina, or the Real Red, or Jennifer, but are the real Masha Rostova? In Cape May, Red said that his Hobson's Choice was that he could either save the mother or the child, but not both. He never did say that he actually saved either one in the end. Only that he chose the child. His subconscious mind told him that he made the right choice in the end, but earlier he said that he had only brought her misery and death. We read into all of his musings that he is talking about the current situation, but what if he was referencing something that had happened a long time ago to the real Liz/Masha. I know on the old board we all felt that Red had probably lost a child in the past; we felt that he was suffering from an extreme guilt complex over something, probably that loss.
Anyway, Red is probably Red and Liz is probably Liz, and I am probably just fishing here. LOL!

That's what I was thinking, why not? He and Kaplan had already worked together before and I'm sure she knew she could trust him and Dr. N. He loves Liz and is probably one of the few people who can go head to head with Red.
I think we are going to need to see a better pic of those bones! It's just hard to tell the size from that one image. There is at least one bullet hole, maybe 2. At this point I go round and round who they could be.
That's a wild thought Honey West!!
The fact there is a K on the tree and Kaplan said she was sorry as if she was disturbing her makes me lean towards KR.
I told someone I don't think they are the person shot on the fire. For one thing it looked like he was shot in the chest, let alone Dragging a grown man who was shot out of the house might have looked a bit odd...

Honey West - I was thinking it might be the real Masha/Liz too.

"Why Tom?"
Redemption failed. And some producer is in love with Ryan. That's why Tom. ;-)

More truth than humour in your statement, Tatiana!
Tom is regular cast, he's a proven commodity (although many of us were horrified he was a Red hire designed to track/follow Lizzy and we didn't like that)
But he's come a long way - its hard to say whether he's the 2nd overall lead in the show even though Liz will still get 2nd billing.
Liz might be the top-billed female in the show but as far as acting is concerned she's supplanted by Red, Tom, Harry, even the Love Twins in the post office.
Plus, its far easier to design and write a mythology for a known character vs. trying to bring in a newbie!

I feel the same way the producer feels.

I am really starting to think that the person Tom was talking to on the phone might be Dr. Nik. Kate told Red that her "confidante" had instructions for when she was dead regarding the "secret at Tansi Farms". Tom might be the courier taking the suitcase to her actual confidante and that could be Nik. He has been missing and presumably either dead or hiding since Liz "died". Tom has been more out in the open, and Red has probably been watching him like a hawk all this time, including Tom's visit to NYC for Redemption. But Red might not know what Nik has been up to. Of course, Red had no idea Kate was even alive for a long time and wouldn't have thought to have either Tom or Nik under surveillance in case they contacted her. So after Kate left the Hunter, did she contact Nik? She probably knew where he was and had helped him get there. My biggest question might be just when did Tom find out that Kate was still alive? Or did he receive something after she was gone? He was out of the picture during the episodes where Red knew Kate was still alive and had been the one attacking him.
So we have this suitcase full of bones. Maybe they need to have someone authenticate who they were, a trusted medical professional might be who they need to be delivered to before they ever go to Liz. Liz's name is on the luggage tag, but she might not be the intended recipient. If things didn't go as planned and Tom never picked up the suitcase, it would just sit in the locker until someday the locker was opened. Then, I would guess, the suitcase would be sent to her. But Tom shares the same address, so I don't know.
Thoughts?

Honey West - I LOVE it! I think we all assumed Nik was no longer being cast, whether dead or just out of sight. But your logic makes perfect sense. And yes, it makes a lot of sense especially when you consider that Nik and Kate conspired together once before.

Honey West - I was thinking along those lines about Dr. Nik with his medical connections would know someone who could authenticate the bones.

Heehee! I got to thinking that, so, Liz receives a suitcase full of bones. Without some sort of authentication they could be anyone's bones, no matter what Kate might have said about them. Would Liz believe what Kate said? She seemed pretty confused about what Kate was really up to in the end. She thought Kate had lost it.
I just think that Tom is probably not the confidante she was referring to. He was off on his own adventures. I think Tom is too close to Liz for Kate to confide in him. He's very good, but would he be able to keep that from Liz once he knew she was alive and knew that Liz was upset about the whole thing after she found out that Red had killed Kate?
I need to figure out that sequence of known events and see if I can figure out how much time elapsed. About how long from when Kate left Hunter to when she revealed herself to Red. When did Tom leave for Redemption? What was the number and sequence of the attacks on Red's empire? How long after Kate recovered did those things start? Kate would have had to contact her own "people" to get that going. Aside from Silvio, who else did she recruit and might they have been former "Red people" or from some other groups who had it in for him and would help her? Cabal, maybe?
Kate might be gone (maybe? maybe not) but she had help, and those people are still out there and pose a huge potential danger to Red and also Liz.

Honey West, it was mentioned that it was the last 5 months that she was actively taking him down.

And HW, I think the Dr is a good choice that Tom could be talking to.
I have kept the timeline updated,😉 i just dont always post that I did it.
You should get a good idea on there when Tom left.

Yay, Eastcoast! Thank you for that info. I couldn't remember when she started her vendetta. I knew it hadn't been too long, and was more like real time.
