TV Fanatic's Predictions about BL renewal

TV Fanatic predicted in an article today that The Blacklist will likely be renewed. In the same article, it said Blacklist Redemption could go either way.

Re: TV Fanatic's Predictions about BL renewal

Thanks, Tuxie400! I like Shades of Blue, but I see it is suffering from the old NBC-change-it-to-a-bad-night syndrome. I forget to watch it on Sunday nights, (of all nights!) and preferred it after TBL on Thursdays. But I also see their point in putting TBL back at 10PM - a little too intense for 9PM, I always thought.

Re: TV Fanatic's Predictions about BL renewal

Yes I have suffered the same with Shades of Blue.  I saw the first series and liked it a lot - more than I thought I would.  But I haven't actually seen a single episode since it came back on Sundays.  I'm usually not around or busy and I totally forget about it.

TBH, I used to lose track of TBL as well, as they chop and change the times and break up the season so much, it runs, then back for 4-5 episodes the off again etc.  So before i became obsessed with the show, I used to miss episodes as I would not realize it was back.  Didn't help that I watch very little network television series.  right now there's really only about 3-4 series that I watch and TBL is the only one I watch on NBC.  So I do emphathize with people who don't know whether the show is coming or going, schedule-wise.  LOL

Re: TV Fanatic's Predictions about BL renewal

TV Grim Reaper has had TBL at 60% chance of renewal for a while based on a number of metrics. He seems to be pretty sure it will be renewed. Of course, if there's a really good few new series coming down the pike, and they don't cancel all the other mediocre to good ratings shows, then TBL could be a toss-up. I probably see it as half empty instead of half-full just by how the bigger players around TBL are acting (very secretively and strangely). But I truly think it's a crap shoot at this point. A 50/50 possibility.

Re: TV Fanatic's Predictions about BL renewal

I have to agree. Ratings are still decreasing, but it seems the writers will at least need one more season to bring the show to a good ending, as there are too many storylines still not finished. Also, I strongly believe the final episode will be "Raymond Reddington (no. #1): Conclusion" which doesn't seem to be the finale of this season.

BTW, shouldn't the network have made the decision already, as they are shooting the final episodes around now? They have to know whether there will be one more season right? I'm sorry, I'm not an expert at this topic.

Yeti - The Showrunners likely know since they're already met with NBC's top brass about next year. I doubt that anything will be officially announced until May. As for the title of the last episode, no one knows what that one is yet. In Season 2, the title was advanced as Tom Connolly, but then it was changed after it aired to Masha Rostova.

Yeti, my take on it is that they have known for some time, but announcing it one way or the other might be a major spoiler for upcoming episodes as they finish out season four. In other words, if they announce season five we might be able to guess and it won't be such a cliffhanger. And if we knew that four was the last then we'd know they're wrapping things up. Right now I think the stories could point  either way and that's how they want it to feel.

Yeti - This is a huge business and the powers that be make decisions solely based on ratings and line up. In other words, they want to get just the right mix of shows for great ratings so they get super advertisers who pay lots of money. They want new shows and they want seasoned shows. And they want whatever is cool, hip, and happening now as their mix.

Then there are the actors, directors, producers, writers, etc. and sometimes someone who's the basic link to the chain decides they don't want to do it anymore. Lots of different contracts, but if you have a disgruntled player, then you can have a problem. This is something I have been concerned about, but I can't specifically point to one particular player. (Although I do think Donald/Diego is leaving; he's not 'essential' to the shows' completion.)

The long and the short is that it isn't about the show; it's about the networks. I agree completely, they know whether it's been cancelled or not, but aren't saying. We can guess as to why. Maybe they still want to sell what they have? The book, the comics? And if they said it was cancelled, it would be harder to promote?

If it's been renewed but they've not made an official announcement, it's because they want us to think it's the end, drum up more suspense, and get a bang out of the season finale ratings.
