Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

I do like Redemption and I will be sad to see it end.
Can't wait to see what they do next.

So now maybe we are going to see why Red tells Liz it matters who her father was and why it puts her in danger?
Such motherly tender affection...

Yes I did!!! Sooo interesting!

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

Eastcoast - I am so glad that you mentioned that as I missed it!  Since we watch TV after 10pm on reduced volume sometimes little things get missed, which is why I need to re-watch at normal volume!  And when I re-watch I normally switch off before the promo as I've already seen it.  So I would have totally missed that!  thanks!

I agree that the series has got very good.  It took a few episodes to find its legs, but now I feel that it has its groove and its very good.

Just occurred to me that the ventilator sound we heard in the Scottie Hargrave episode of TBL - that many of us thought was Howard - hasn't shown up at all in Redemption.

Maybe it's the REAL Scottie who was replaced by the Russian doppelganger husband-electrocuting deep cover spy Scottie.

Or maybe I should have gone to bed hours ago...

Colleen - you know, I don't think that idea is that "out there".  I had a thought that maybe current Scottie replaced the "real" one but only more recently, but they had set it all up at some time after the car crash.  Sleeper agents sometimes waited years or a chunk of a lifetime to then be "called up" when the time was right.  Spent a life building a fake life, fitting in so no suspicion.

So if fake SH replaced real SH more recently that is possible.  Other than that, its a deep dark secret that either SH or Howard or both of them are keeping.  Just as long as it doesn't turn out to be the real Christopher.  That might be a step too far.

Also - is that behind her question to Tom.  we will see.  the mystery continues....

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

I agree its the best series currently on TV - the long=running Criminal Minds and NCIS are too formulaic. BLR is definitely NOT formulaic.
Main problem is being caught between internal and external story-lines and having them constantly conflict. Pretty hard to resolve in the writing room but they're  doing a fairly good job so far. .
Non patternized TV dramas tend to get the axe no matter how much critical acclaim, great acting and riveting productions they generate. Witness - my all-time favorite 'Person of Interest'. Designated Survivor is also very good and non-traditional - thus its probably in jeopardy, too!

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

Lara1 #44 it crossed my mind too about Christopher being on the ventilator! LOL

I agree with everyone that Redemption has turned a corner and hope it gets a 2nd season. Funny how two weeks ago the character development seemed rushed and now it doesn't. I'm fascinated by how Howard and Scottie interact. Will be neat to see Liz and Cooper thrown into the mix. Last time Liz saw Solomon he shot up her wedding and caused Agnes a premature birth. Wonder if her mama bear instincts will kick in.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

So Howard says to Scottie:“I know who you are and I know what you’ve done.”  hmmm

And that kind of sounds like what the Director said to Red, something like "I know who you are Raymond....who you are to her.  And I know why you've done this."

So I wonder, if we find out that Scottie is really someone else, is that a further clue re Red.

Well when I re-watch the episode this weekend I'll be looking for all sort of little clues!

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

I have been wondering about the ventilator myself because they have not showed anything else about it. What was weird to ME is that it really wasn't very hidden. The door was open a bit and you would have to be deaf not to hear it.

So, I was thinking is it possible that Whitehall was a part of this sleeper project?  Maybe the vent person was there?  Or there are other vent people? I know that is a bit out there, but....It looks like she had someone killed so they would not tell Howard what it was.  She told Howard he didn't have the capacity to understand the consequences of what it could be. (?)
I did notice that in the previews it shows Howard back in his suit and looking like he is in charge!!

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

And, I also meant to say that it looked like Tom getting the crap knocked out of him by Solomon and then Tom takes a chair and cracks him over the head with it.
If she is really his mother, I would say she has lost her motherly touch over the years.  That was a very intense look she gave him asking him when asking him about her father.

It is too bad for all the people I have heard say here and there they were not watching Redemption. This is going to answer a few questions about TBL.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

This is a great discussion! I had never thought of the ventilator and Whitehall and a sleeper project....hmmm.

I posted this on THRUSHES:
"Did anyone think there was a similarity (in creepiness!) between The Apothecary and Cypress Agency? Hightower kept his wife sedated so that he could impregnate her against her will. In the same way, the women who were abducted, were kept in a coma-type state and inseminated repeatedly to become pregnant against their will.

In some ways it makes me think of Nazi Germany and the "Lebensborn", a state program promoting 'superior' children who were created not out of love from their parents, but simply for their genetics/superior race. Many of them became orphans, were fathered by Nazi war criminals, and their mother's vowed to loyalty to the SS.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

Eastcoast - yes that's interesting about the ventilator isn't it?  And wasn't that in scottie's house?  I had the impression that she had an office and other rooms set up there but it was one of her homes as well. I could be wrong about that.

Yeah it doesn't look like Scottie is going to win any mother of the year awards anytime soon. She's a mom in a Lady Macbeth sort of way, lol

The way she turns the floods of tears on and off in what we know is an act at times (at least) and the way she lies to so many people it's hard to know whether she is really Tom's mom or not. Or really Scottie or not (heh heh)

🙃

I do wonder why Harold is talking to Howard in the promo. Does Liz get the task force involved after Tom calls her?  Or is there another, deeper reason. Intriguing!😚

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

I actually fell asleep somewhere in the middle of this episode, but woke to Howard tell Scottie that Tom is their son.  Perfect timing!  I just watched the promo for this week and it looks amazing!!! Interesting to me that Howard and Harold don't know each other, but both know Red. I wonder if they'll sip on a few brewskies while sharing stories about our beloved Red. One can dream, right?

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

Blacklist: Redemption is a tribute to TV drama series where there isn't a definitive "STAR", like Blacklist where James Spader carried the show for at least the first 2 seasons.
In Redemption the weight of the series is almost equally distributed by a variant cast - the core of which are all experienced hands but never really starred in their own series.
Obviously Ryan Eggold and Famke carried the initial burden but Edi Gathegi quickly picked up the slack. One cannot discount the ever-increasing contributions of the suddenly-nuanced Tawny Cypress's Nez character plus the rapid-fire insertions of unique charcters like Howard as played by the very versatile Terry O'Quinn and the unique thespian playing Dumont.
The focus in this series is more on the team, less on the black-listers and various criminals they encounter. Gives everyone a chance to shine - and shine they do!

Re: Redemption Episode 1.06: Hostages: Discussion page

BBB - yes, and given the limitations of an 8 week show, that was a good call on the producers/showrunners/writers, etc.

Recently I have wondered, wow, can you imagine Tawny Cypress portraying Liz Keen????  Liz was originally supposed to be a kind of emotionally distant, volatile, latch-key, street smart kid, with occasional outbursts. What we got in Megan Boone was a sweetheart, adorable, pretty, very attractive, kind of soft-spoken character which doesn't mesh with the written character Liz.

It might have made a lot more sense.

Wow - Tatiana - that's a very unique tribute to Tawny - without demeaning Megan.
If anyone has been a so-called 'Breakout Star' on Redemption it certainly has to be Tawny Cypress.

On Blacklist she just played 2nd banana to the chief killer (Solomon) and was very one dimensional (other than a couple short scenes she was shown taking extra care of the kidnapped Agnes)

Her nuanced Nez, who's forming a bond with Tom but still works will under Scottie and with her partner Mattias has been a revelation.

Less so, Adrian Martinez's Dupont. I'm sure Adrian will use this series to buff his resume for future engagements.

I am thinking that since they said Tom gets help from an unexpected ally that this could be who they are referring to?

Eastcoast - I'm thinking that the "unexpected ally" could be the FBI.    I wonder where Red's role in all of this is - I don't think we will find out until near to the end of TBL season
