Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

Famke really turned up the acting heat in that scene with Kevin's mom & the team wrap=up!

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

BBB - agree.  The episode was far from compelling, the writing weak, lots of implausible actions, the attempts at humor felt forced, IMO.
But the last few minutes were powerful.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

I do think the next episode will be better and may have some TBL clues.

American town set up in Russia to train Russian agents.....may have some TBL story clues......

Its gonna be a tough road getting decent ratings when the first 3/4 of the show is themeless and lukewarm, despite the solid closing!

I do like Team Tom - Nez & Solomon are great, Dumont started slowly but is growing on me. Famke/Scottie showing more humanity in the last 5 minutes than she probably has in her career!

Hope so, it was still the best Mon to Thur original drama on network TV - mostly due to Trumpzilla and his inagaural address killing most TV. Scorpion and Team Tom were the best shows of the week.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

lara1 and BBB - I agree that the ending was excellent. The whole episode made one sympathetic toward Scottie. It painted her as a bold leader and a woman who follows her heart. While this episode wasn't as strong as last week's, it made me like Dumont and Scottie more than I did last Thursday. I liked the idea that Tom was invested in saving Kevin because he had been his boyhood friend. Nez pulled the door off was great! Edi is a strong presence, even when the writing is weak.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

Tuxie400 Agree - Scottie was leaving me a bit cold and this episode humanized her, essential to have the audience relate to her on any level.  And the Tom/Kevin connection was good.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

Big disappointment. I totally agree about the writing. Yes, the last part was good, but it didn't save the show.

They're trying to make a show with supporting cast members. If they want this show to succeed, they need to step out of the shadow of TBL to some extent. Part of what made these characters interesting was that they were bad, very bad, and not to be trusted. For awhile, we didn't know which side Tom was on. That undercurrent was totally lost. I was able to crochet two granny squares for my quilt. That was not the case last week. I had to pay a lot more attention.

I also agree that the previews for next week look a lot more interesting. I finally got around to seeing the movie "Salt," which was the movie with the premise about Russian kids being raised in a fake American town. The movie wasn't great, but the idea is really cool.

I'm already going through James Spader withdrawl. Seven more weeks . . .

IowaWatcher - two granny squares! Well at least you made progress on your quilt!
Yes, agree, did not have too pay too much attention.  and to be honest, it didn't hold my attention.

If only the dynamic of the last five minutes was present earlier in the show!

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

Fantasy episode thoughts - - -

Would love to see a combo platter ep w/ Team Scorpion and Team Redemption

Imagine

Sylvester Dodd & Dumont teaming up?
Nez & Happy Quinn?
Tom & Walter O'Brien?
Famke & Katherine McPhee
Even Agnes & Ralph the young genius?

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

lara1, post 23, that is exactly what I was thinking as soon as I saw it!!

My take on BLR is I went into it with a different idea of things. This was to be about redemption. I think we are supposed to be seeing the human side of them and possibly what makes them the way they are.

We know SH is cold hearted probably because of her son being kidnapped.
We really don't know what made Nez or Solomon the way they are , but I for one was glad to see a nicer side of him last night because I truly dislike his character putting it mildly as I can on here.....
And Tom has changed a lot especially since Agnes has been in the picture.

Hi eastcoast!  That's an interesting observation, I didn't think of that.  So to show the more human side of things and maybe how they got to be the way they are...hmmm.  That's an interesting premise.  I guess in due course we will see whether that results in a better show.  It would at least make the characters more interesting and multi faceted than just the "bad guys" doing hard nosed missions theme.

Thanks for your observations!

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

lara1, I figured out Whitehall!!! (I think) lol
I re-watched Natalie Luca to see If I could see a connection for Red being poisoned and it was in that one I heard them mention Whitehall.
They were a part of the Hawthorn weapons lab.
When Samar asked why they didnt go to the police, said because they had government connections and they didn't know who they could trust. (or something like that)

Also, In episode one of Redemption I think it was Nez who mentioned another Satellite Group named Arctek that they use.
I am now thinking that Hargrave could be behind Red being poisoned. She could be working with Kirk in some way.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

Eastcoast!  great sleuthing!  So that was the lab that was trying to weaponize Natalie's illness to great a biological weapon.  Great find.  For reference, I'm including the dialogue here:

Natalie: But when Malik learned what Whitehall was doing...
Whitehall?
Natalie:  Hawthorne's weapons lab. They weren't trying to cure me. They were using me, my cells, to develop a biological weapon.

Re: Redemption Episode 1.02: "Kevin Jensen" Discussion

Eastcoast - Thanks for verifying we had heard Whitehall before. I read it on a Tumblr blog this morning and was just getting ready to post it when I saw your info.
